Hi,

I posted this question in the "Acoustical Treatments Master Thread" without much luck so trying it as a separate thread.

I am looking to build bass traps and acoustic panels using 4" Roxul rockboard 40 (using doubles for bass traps to achieve 8" depth) to address the ringing in my basement theater. I have used GOM FR701 for the screen wall, but it's a bit expensive. Can you please advise cheap acoustically transparent black cloth with good fire rating? I considered speaker cloth from parts express and Joann Fabrics but not sure about their fire ratings.

Thanks in advance!

Thank you both for your responses. I never heard of Rose Brand but that cloth looks pretty good, is acoustically transparent, fire rated and reasonably priced. Also, from the picture it looks like it's not very visually transparent either. I may end up going with it.

I would like to avoid painting the panel material flat black because it may hurt it's acoustic properties. I may also stop by at local Joann's and pick up a sample to compare.

RE: painting. A light 'dusting' of spray paint will not hurt it at all.

Got it.

I ended up ordering the rosebrand fabric. I will see how it looks and decide if some painting is needed.

Good fabric is not cheap. You may luck out with what you bought but over all your panels will look (and last) much longer with GOM. Trust me if we could find something less expensive that had the same quality we would do it.

I hear you, and would agree that you have the perfect motivation to find a cheaper alternative.

I am hoping to be lucky though
I picked up the roxul boards yesterday and the rosebrand fabric have also arrived. We built the first 7'7" high (floor to ceiling), 2' wide, 8 inches deep corner trap today and it looks pretty good. The fabric is acoustically transparent but not visually transparent. I can't see the rockwool unless I stand a few inches from the trap and and try really hard. No need to paint

Only time will tell about the durability.
