I need an inexpensive 55" LCD TV for the basement. The only requirement is a built-in Roku platform. I am looking at the TCL 55S517 TV but wanted to ask your opinion if there is anything better in the sub $400 range that I should also consider.

Honestly, I do not even need a 4K TV but that's pretty much all you can get these days. I am replacing a 42" 1080p LG TV and the main object is to just get a bigger TV. It will be used mainly for games (Xbox) and to watch Sling TV (not a 4K streaming yet).

Concur having just bought a 49S515 to replace a 9 year old TCL L32HDF11TA for the master bedroom. Have been enjoying a 65R615 for the past 2.5 months too.

Do you guys know if the Wide Color Gamut which I think is the only difference between the 4-series and 5-series is worth getting for the HD content? We only have Xbox with HD games and Sling TV which is also only HD. Not sure how much the HDR and WCG would benefit me. No plans to subscribe to 4K content in the nearest future.

You want the 5 series over the 4 series, if only because the 5 series is quite a bit brighter.
