The vigatecsite lists an 'inexpensive ' dvd player with sdi input named the DVD-IX- the picture shows a pioneer that's probably been modded. Anybody know how much and who sells it?

They look quite comparable. However, the DVD-IX is a PAL/NTSC/Region free player and the players we mod are not.

I guess what I should be asking is...What SDI-enabled player (either from Immersive or Vigatec) has the best transport and MPEG-2 decoder (e.g., no chroma bug)?

Let's assume other features (SACD, DVD-Audio) are irrelevant. At the moment, I think we have only a few choices, yes?

  1. Panasonic DVD-RP56 (circa 2001)
  2. Panasonic DVD-A7 (w/ DVD-Audio, circa 2000, discontinued?)
  3. Denon DVD3300 (w/ DVD-Audio, circa 2000)
  4. Technics DVD-A10 (w/ DVD-Audio, circa 1999)
  5. Vigatec DVD-IX (Pioneer model ???)
  6. Vigatec DVD-MAX (Pioneer DV-737 - european; discontineud?; Has same chroma upsampling bug as U.S. DV-37/47?)
  7. Meridian 800 (to S&W interpolator via proprietary encryption)
  8. Theta David II [/list=1]

Are there others? Do any of the others on the list above have the chroma upsampling bug?

What's the Pioneer base model for the DVD-IX?

The Pio 444 is a VERY nice looking cheapo player, but it has some flaws. I does not have component out, so it is really only useable with sdi. The unit, without SDI, costs only USD 350,- in Germany.

Philip
