Need to give this as a wedding gift. What's currently the cheapest

available AC3 receiver. I need a unit with a decoder built in.

thanks,

Win,

If you are going to give this as a wedding gift and do not want to pay or care as to quality...I think you are better off giving a gift certificate from a quality home audio store and letting the couple decide whether to add to that amount for a higher quality unit. Just my humble opinion.

I think JVC has Dolby Digital units for as little as $190 dollars street. But, if you do care about getting the best quality for a special friend for a very competitive amount of money...take a hard look at the Outlaw Audio model 1050 receiver ( http://www.outlawaudio.com/receiver.html ).

Michael, thanks for your reply, and your opinion on a gift certificate is a novel idea. However this couple already has a huge Denon unit with ac3/dts in the livingin room. This would be a unit for the bedroom,

so tons of features are surely not need to watch the occasional dvd

before hitting the sack. I didnt want to spend $300.00 for a unit

that is not gonna get much use.

thanks again

Win,

I do not know if you are being sarcastic or not...but my suggestion of a gift certificate is only reflective on how people like to choose their own particular audio equipment units.

Check out:

For the JVC at $189

Mike, sorry, but I was not trying to be sarcastic. I honestly mean

it is a good idea for a gift certificate. However, in this case the

party has mentioned to me that they would like a small ac3 receiver,

for dvd only in their bedroom. this is not to be the MAIN unit

for their home theater.

thanks for the links

Win,

Sorry, sometimes you can not tell what people fully mean on these forums...because you can hear the tone of speach of the posts.

I think I fixed the link...so long it did not want to be posted.

Good Luck,

Michael
I have the JVC RX6000VBK and its worked fine for me. I don't like the way they stated their specs (like many manufactures; they fluff it). Its rated at 100W RMS at 1kHz (x5) rather than 20x20kHz so it. But its been fine for my den so no complaints.

There is a Kenwood Model at 190 as well. The Onkyo 484 at about 100 more with dts and 5 channel stereo is a deal. I think it even has 24/96 dacs. Rated at 55/ch
I'm not sure how much it is in the US, but the Technics SA-DX940 is pretty inexpensive. It does DTS too, but only composite video switching.
