My point is that you can walk into Sears and get the 6000 without a 12 month commitment for under $250...that is a hell of a lot cheaper than either of those two places. Trying to help some people out.

Call me a moron!!! I just noticed what you guys were talking about. The $21.99 credit on your bill for the top 100 for 12 months which makes it only $9 a month. That is CHEAP!!!

I got that deal from Sears from the web page listed in the first post about 3 weeks ago. My Sears locally charged me the 24.95 shipping fee as well. Tax, title out the door the system cost me $291. What a beautiful thing http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

There have been lots of reports from people stating that their Sears will not honor the ad. Sears sells the same set up for $699 I believe. Their cost for the equipment is roughly $500. They are taking a huge hit on this one.

Good luck

GTIManiac-

Just go to the url in the first post by GCocks and print out the webpage ad. Take it to your nearest Sears and tell them to ring it up http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif Seriously, my salesperson had no problem giving me the deal. I handed over the Sears charge and said Thank you.

BTW: Jetta WE driver here with a perma smile

First of all, most Sears have stopped honoring webpage ads for satellite systems, although a few still have not been warned by Sears corporate.

Anyway, how does one go about having a Sears store that "will" play the web page pricing game honor an ad such as http://www.dbs-sales.com/echostar/6000series.html when they have posted all over their page "Mail Order Pricing Only - In Store Pricing Higher ".

This I am curious about ?

I THINK I have this figured out. The dbs-sales.com ad predates the $9 deal. (They note elsewhere on their site that they won't be doing mail order for a while. I think they also haven't updated the site.) The pre-August deals must have had a bigger allowance for installation, which was excluded from the low prices. The new deals being adverstised around the net for about $400 for a 6023 require a programming commitment and exclude installation, but include an install kit. The $340 deal at SatelliteDepot.com doesn't have an install kit; they sell one for $15 or $20 (not sure which). Does this all sound reasonable?

The salesman at my Sears said he'd match these. My problem is that I have a tricky installation. (I'm going to need a careful site survey to find an opening through the trees.) How much does a dual-dish install cost as a stand-alone?

I took the add to my Sears. They said that their price does not require a programming commitment. The add requires a programming commitment. The online dealer get a kickback for the programming, so he can charge less for the 6023 sat system. My Sears would not honor the add.

Also, I called dbs-sales and they are closed til Sept 10,2001 for remodeling. The price probably will not be good when they reopen.

Apparently dbs-sales has gotten wind of people taking their ads into Sears. Prices listed at the page linked at the top of this thread, have all been changed to "Call -- in stock."

AllSat has one of the cheapest prices I have seen for a 6000 system for new subscribers. http://www.allsat.com/6022.shtml

You could see if you can get Sears to price match it. They did price match AllSat's price on my 501 system but I had to complain to Chicago in order to get them to do it. There is a special office at Sears HQ for consumer relations and they have the clout to order the stores around (read as: authorize them to do unusual things).

Boy, did I get a different response. I would like to have the Sears phone number you called.

When I tried this, they confirmed my caller ID name and said that that they ( Sears ) were opening a fraud case with their investigators about this very thing. Seems that the ad you remarked about, as well as several other product ads from other online companies were included and Sears has finally started checking with the web companies to confirm the pricing and details.

She also went further and said that they were planning to go go back and "up Charge" anyone found trying to purchase from them on a fradulent basis, i.e., in this case, attempting to "strong arm" a Sears manager into giving the same price on a 6000 package with the price match guarantee, when an online company specifically requires a programming commitment or other detail Sears did not.

She said this is attemted fraud in their eyes and an investigation had been launched. I obviously said that I was not sure if I wanted a 6000 system at this time and said I would visit the local Sears for more info http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif Whew !

Sorry for the bad news, but I suspect from what she said, a few of you will be recieivng a letter from Sears or a surprise charge on your credit card ( if one was used for the purchase ).

From reading the stipulations on the back of my Sears card, if you use that one, you are dead in the water.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out. If anyone receivs any info on this, please post it here.
