cheapest "dual room" receiver?

450 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  cbrboy
I found a sony for $350 and an onkyo for a little more. I really can't go above $400. Are there other brands out there? I need something that can do 5.1 and dual room capabilities. I'm not too interested in freq response, THD etc.... This is for a tiny room

Thanks

avr 1706 is one you may be able to get it at 400. Denon has always worked good for me. I set them up at peoples homes all the time for running music throughout the house.
If you only want stereo in the 2nd room (versus another 5.1 setup), the Harman Kardon AVR-435 does a nice job with 2 zones, and is fairly inexpensive right now, especially refurb'd.

Do you mean true multi-zone (ability to play different sources at the same time in each room), or merely just A/B speaker (play the same source in either or both rooms)?

True multi-zone.

Here is mysetup:

In my family room I will have 5.1

In my garage I have two speakers mounted near the ceiling. I want to be able to have people watch movies in the family room, while I'm out in the garage wrenching on my bike. I'll look at the model numbers posted by other posters in this thread

Thanks guys. Any more ideas , keep em coming thanks
