I enjoy the Hogan reruns. Not at all interested in children's programming and I doubt that most children would care if their cartoons were in HD or SD. I vote no for children's programming and yea for more Hogan.

I'd like some more network HD shows on HDNet, I dunno how much they cost, but that's a pretty sweet aspect of HDNet.

What they have now

Agency, The

Andy Richter Controls the Universe

Big Apple

Charlie's Angels

Fugitive, The

Hack

Handler, The

Haunted

Hogan’s Heros

In-Laws

Ladies Man

Minute with Stan Hooper, A

Queens Supreme

Smallville

Square Pegs

That's Life

Wiseguy

Did I get them all?

Shows I'd like Added

Everybody Loves Raymond (This would be awesome :) )

Greg the Bunny (Was this Filmed?)

I've got a bunch more but just wanted to post this.

There are already way too many rugrat channels on DirecTV wasting bandwidth. Don't need any kid crap on HDNet.

Given enough time I'm sure that Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, and Disney will make HD channels. It will take a while but I would guess that all three will happen within 10 years.

Disney would be great, because they show a lot of their feature films which are widescreeen and might benefit from HD. Toy Story, Bug's Life, Monsters, Inc., etc. would especially be nice uncut in HD.

While I think Cartoon Network would be cool in HD, they only have a few series that are in production that could benefit: Teen Titans, Justice League (already widescreen), Clone Wars, Anime. I don't think simple animation like Dexter/Powerpuff would even look different. (In fact, Clone Wars wouldn't benefit either, but all the Star Wars geeks would go crazy and buy HD equipment.)

Nickelodeon doesn't show almost anything made recently to my knowledge. Maybe Jimmy Neutron, or something like that.

I have kids, can you tell???

One of the most technologically advanced HD studios in the world was created for a show airing on Nickelodeon - LazyTown. Though Nick obviously doesn't air the show in HD (or even widescreen). Some websites about the shows production:

there's others...

Son of the Beach - (yes, it WAS filmed wide, check the DVD release, the outtakes are widescreen)

how about some 'action' shows...

Mutant X - all three seasons were filmed wide and the DVD releases were done 16:9

Relic Hunter - (mmm.. Tia Carrera...) filmed wide and the LONE full season 2 release in the UK is 16:9

There's a GREAT comedy/drama showing in Canada, "This is Wonderland" that is shown LBX, so I'm assuming there should/could be a wide transfer available.

reach across the pond some also, the UK recently finished run of a dark/fantasy series called "HEX" that no 'broadcast' network would dare touch.

and I would LOVE to see the new UK CGI version of "Captain Scarlet" over here ....

Leave the Children's programming to PBS, since they already do a couple of kid's shows in HD (Clifford and some show with Mary Lou Retton).

This is just as baffling to me as that other thread where supposed HD enthusiasts were claiming the news in HD would be a waste! If we want HD adoption quicker then we have to support a wide array of HD programming, whether it is something we ourselves would want to watch or not. The more programming there is outside the currently available sports and network dramas and sitcoms, the more positive reasons for a non-HD person or family to consider a new HDTV. For example, I don't watch soap operas but I look forward to the day when most of them are HD because it will hopefully convince more women that the switch is a good thing.

(That said, that Mary Lou show may be the worst kids show I have ever seen, and that includes Boohbah, Teletubbies, and Barney!)

I agree with the soap op statement. How come Y&R is still the only one in HD for this long a time. All the others are filmed so it shouldn't be that hard to switch, get 'r done!

I wish it was as simple as that. But it's impossible for a channel to survive long term, if it tries to be all things to all people. HD-Net needs to decide what kind of channel it's going to be, and stick to it. When HD was a novilty, they could get away with eratic programming. But as more and more HD channels come on line, people aren't going to tune in just for the "HD-WOW" factor alone. I think Universal HD channel is suffering from the same "identity crises" problem as well, but at least Discovery HD is fairly consistant (now if they would just quit with the endless repeats, and come up with more material). If there isn't enough "kids" programming in HD, then Disney, Nickolodeon, or whomever, need to convert to HD. I'd like to see more Sci-Fi in HD, since I think Science Fiction absolutely just screams "High Definition"! But, I'm not going to insist that HD-Net show more Sci-Fi. Instead, I think the SciFi channel should get off of thier duffs and make the switch to HD.

Soaps are shot on video, not film, using a multiple camera and control room setup. Therefore that "easy" switch would require replacement of the cameras and most of the control room equipment. In addition, Y&R is one of the few shows that has sets that actually look good in HD or the budget to make the switch. I would expect ABC's General Hospital to be the next up for HD. Bold and the Beautiful might make the jump only because it is also shot in CBS's Television City studios along with Y&R. CBS's New York based soaps (Guiding Light and As the World Turns) probably won't switch for a while - those facilities on 5th Avenue are quite old.

I can't even guess what NBC's plans are.

Agreed. It's not the responsibility of HDNET to do other networks' jobs. Their primary goal is to establish an audience that tunes in their shows and sticks around. They won't make it getting their eyeballs in bits and pieces. The networks can get away with aiming for a wider audience, but with the fragmentation of cable/satellite stations, it's very important to appeal to the largest specific audience you can get. Nickelodeon is for kids, Nick at Night is for Nostalgia buffs, and Sci-Fi is for people who think they're watching Sci-Fi.

HDNet needs to establish an identity BEFORE HD becomes mainstream and isn't the only draw. HDNET Movies has already done this by being a movie channel. They've become somewhat of an Encore-type channel that shows pretty good movies that wouldn't get shown if not for channels like these. HDnet needs that same kind of identity, not just be a collection point for shows that should have been shown in HD on their original channels.

They still have time to find their path - they aren't in that many households yet. Once they find that right path, it should establish more demand for the channel among viewers - as well as among programming providers.

LOL! I almost spit out my gum when I read that.

Yes SciFi shows a lot non-SciFi that pretends to be SciFi. If you get my meaning. Hint: Paranormal Phenomenon are NOT "Science" fiction. But, in their defense, SciFi channel still offers more Science Fiction than any other network. And it still would be cool in HD.;)

Thanks for the info, I dunno why I thought they were filmed.

That stinks that there's more involved for these folks to go HD. I know it would be nirvana for my mom if ATWT was HD ;)

No real identity? Compared to InHD, especially? I think MC may have even already discussed this previously.

Are you talking about like Simpsons/Fox and Duckman/USA?

(I mention Duckman because that was USA's original intention with Duckman ;) )
