Just curious:


Anyone out there know any difference(s) between a 5040 manufactured in China vs. Malaysia?


I believe that the earlier units were coming from China and the more recent ones came from Malaysia? Does the origin mean anything in terms of design, construction, reliability, etc?

I believe the ones from Malaysia have the new thermo-controlled fan

design and probably USB2.0 ports (which will likely never be used)

Correct as far as the fan is concerned. The Chinese units feature the jet engine fan; see a separate, lengthy thread on this subject. The Malaysian units' fans are dramatically quieter. Not sure about the USB ports....

The Malaysia units also feature the new, sportier box. (It's a much brighter yellow than before.)
