With several major Chinese CEs already publicly embarking on the HD DVD RnD and will be coming out with HD DVD this year, what are the chances of the Chinese CE beating the Japanese CEs (whom traditionally dominating the CE industry) in term of the hidef war? If HD DVD is successfully made mainstream while the Japanese CEs still doing BD exclusively,

so the question is, what are the chances?

If HD-DVD doesn't keep up with BD on the software front; these crappy Chinese players will be at the back of US stores waiting to shipped back to China!!

If things get really bad, they may be deported upon entry!

I believe it's what will ultimately win the war for HD DVD.

Remember when CE products were made in the US? Then it became Japan, then Taiwan and Korea, now it's China's turn.

Big blunder by the blu-ray camp to not realize this.

The DVD player in most people's homes right now are made in China as are many, many, many more electronics.


Its within living memory of many people reading this forum of people saying the same thing about JAPANESE electronics too.

My understanding is that HD-A2s are being made in China right now and I've seen a hint that some BD things may be manufactured in China. I'm not sure how much difference it will make whether those things are manufactured in China for Chinese companies or Japanese companies. The integration with the Broadcom part that they are working on with Microsoft seems like it could be a big deal as far as bringing costs down for HD DVD and it will be interesting to see how prices compare later this year.

Chinese CE mfrs are NOT beating Japanese CE mfrs. In fact, they have been outsold by at least 50,000x so far. Let us talk in future tense - for there are no Chinese CE players in the present. They might sell more players when they do launch at lower "commodity price points".


A lot of Japanese CE mfrs also manufacture in China, apart from other countries. It'd be hard to go an hour in your life without touching or coming across something NOT made in China. Coming from China doesn't imply that it would be lacking in quality.

Brand awareness is a minor factor now. Value and price are the major factor.


If brand name mattered more than price, why would people be snatching up all those Vizio and Olivia flat screens?

erm.. people, i am talking about Chinese CEs making their products in China and not Japanese CE products that are made in China ... its Chinese CE vs Japanese CE (where the products are manufactured is irrelevant

)


secondly, i am ABSOLUTELY not underminding (or even implying so) products manufactured in China as inferior in quality. There are plenty of Denon and Onkyo receivers that are made in China.


What is asking is the chance of Chinese CE beating Japanese CE is the development of HD DVD players (assuming that the current BD exclusive Japanese CEs are developing BD players SOLELY). And if HD DVD wins the format war, wont that make the Chinese CEs you know .....

That will be the HD-DVD.

When all the shelf space will be full of lots of BDs.

Oppo is a Chinese CE, isn't it? Make a great, inexpensive product, and brand awareness follows quickly. (as far as I know, Oppo hasn't sided with BD or HD-DVD yet)

So, when do we get the Fanai, Vizio, and Syntax-Brillian HD DVD player announcements? Or are you implying LG doing successfully in one product means Samsung will sell well in another?
