I had this problem with my old Soundblaster Live. Quite irritating..
Tried different hard drives, no luck. Different drivers, no luck...
My board was an ASUS CUV4X. Had some Via chipset on it. Not sure if it was that or the Soundblaster...
That machine has since died. I have ordered a A7N8X Deluxe as its successor. I am going to try out the on-board audio first. It has been getting rave reviews for sound quality and performance. Should be here this week. I will report if this fixes the problem. I can even stick on my old SB Live for giggles if you want.
