Right front channel seems to have died on my Pioneer VSX-924 receiver. I guess it was no top model but having bought it cheap and used about 3-4 years ago,it did what I needed and it had the features I needed (Airplay, two HDMI outputs, 6 HDMI inputs, HDMI2.0 or later, optical and coax in, and decent room correction (Advanced MCACC)

What's a good replacement for it, if i want to stick with Pioneer and look for a value buy? I'm keeping an eye out on the used market for a Pioneer SC-LX59, but are there any other good recent models to look for used or new, with those specs?

@Osamede you have to get a top tier model from 2016/17 or a new 2019 vsx-lx304/504 to get advanced mcacc.

Where are you, the lx59 reference means you are not in the US?

The replacement for you would be these, in order from basic to top of line; vsx933, vsx-lx103/303 or the lx503, all from 2018. The new 2019 models are vsx934, lx104 and the 304/504 with advanced mcacc.

Others 7 channel receivers to consider, all similar to your vsx924 but with better room correction and full set of preouts and all of the newest features; Denon x3400/3500 or Yamaha rx-a870/1070 or newer a880/1080.

I am on the same boat.
Just one tip: dont go outside from Pioneer/Onkyo if you are happy with the Pioneer sound.

Dont even consider Yamaha or Denon.

I am going to buy it in Spain/Germany/Italy.

Torn apart between SC line three years old vs the 2019 LX504. I really dont want to spend in SC line that is from 2016, so tough one. If there whwere SC line from 2019 that would be no brainer...

@asabrag the old lx701/801 are beasts and the last of the class D amps for Pioneer, except the sc-lx502. The real issue is the limited number of hdcp 2.2 inputs, i think they only have 3, iirc? Good news, I think they are still getting firmware updates?

The 2018 vsx-lx503 has excellent reviews, good power and in the US sells for less than the 701/801. The new lx504 now adds advanced mcacc and is the same price as the lx701/801 (US) which makes it the better deal. All the new features, full preouts, 9 channels that can expand to 11, phono, etc.

good luck!

R u sure about the D amp? I have the 932, pretty sure its a D amp. 504 went back to AB? Sure sure? LOL..you are making it harder for me.
I was considering the LX504 and the RZ840 to get 2019 features instead the LX801/3100 that are too old for my like...(I have a Denon 4300H) and I really miss the additional 2 channels for .4 atmos.
I will be buying Sep 2...

@asabrag Nope, I believe everything below the lx501 (2016) and lx502 (2017) from pioneer and their sister Onkyo rz1100 (2016) were class AB. There is still some debate about the rz920. It's about 37 lbs which gives me the indication that it too is AB, but there is an entire forum discussion on it.

Yes there is no need to spend $1k on a receiver that can only accept 3-5 hdcp 2.2 inputs.

Yes the 4300 is still a good avr, so sell it for $300-$500 and then the lx504 or rz840 will only be a few hundred $$.

Thats the idea. If just it sounded like Pioneer/Onkyo I would keep it
Greetings! For what it's worth I retired my Pioneer SC-81 Class D amp and purchased the Onkyo RZ840. I was debating between the Pioneer LX504 (not a class D amp) and the RZ840 (not a class D amp) but I liked the THX certification on the RZ840 and the ability to set the crossover individually for each speaker rather than having one crossover point for all speakers with the LX504. I am getting the RZ840 dialed in (speaker eq, etc.) and subjectively it sounds a bit better than my SC-81, and I really liked the sound of the SC-81. Hope this helps in your decision-making process.

Thank You! Any rumors/plans for the new SC/11.2 line? @eriksells916

Good choice @savage01, the rz840 looks like a beast again. Can you tweak the subwoofer eq, that might be the deciding factor since they put the video up-scaling back in, like the lx503/504.

The lx504 now has mcacc advanced, but it says standing wave control and single subwoofer control. That's too bad, they should have included Pro which allows full channel and dual sub control. If you do not have minidsp I am sure that will push sales to the rz840.
@asabrag I will need to deflect the question to @jdsmoothie as he knows just about everything about receivers, setup, features, manufacturers, etc.

Yes on the sub eq. On my sub the Equalizer Settings menu shows 3 adjustable frequencies. Sorry I can't remember what they are (I'm at work). Of course on the RZ840 the crossover frequency is independently adjustable for each speaker, whereas the LX504 has one crossover frequency for the system making the crossover frequency the same for all speakers.

EDIT: Actually my setup gives me 5 frequencies to adjust on the sub: 25, 40, 63, 100, 160 hz.
