Chosing between yamaha yht-585 and sony ht7200dh

Lat week I looked around for a home theatre set up, my budget gradually increased from $200 I thought I'd spend to $500 as all the 200-300 ones had no hdmi etc...

I found a yamaha yht-585 at best buy for $411 and I bought that but haven't opened it yet as have had no time.

Bored at work and started looking around at home theatres again I came across the sony 7200dh for $500

Yamaha doesn't carry audio over hdmi sony does I think.

Sony also comes with seperate upscaling dvd player

Im almost ready to bring the yamaha back and get the sony at circuit city

Im new to home theatres, any opinions on which is the better system would be appreciated

Been searching web and can't find any real reviews of the 7200dh.

Found reviews of 7100dh, basically said that it wont act as a video switch and that system had no power, no ooomph.

Main concern I have in choosing a home theatre is I want one that acts as a video switch as I have more devices to hook up to my tv with hdmi than I have hdmi slots on the tv.

Sony is looking good, but can anyone offer their opinion on if other sony theatres have good sound or not. Reviews seem to either be good or say it sounds like crap with sony stuff.
I owned the HT-7000DH which is a 2 generation old version of the current HT-7200DH. It was reliable, had good SQ and was easily usable as a video switch. I had an upscaling DVD player and HD DVR STB connected via HDMI cables to the 7000's receiver (had to have separate digital audio connections which are no longer needed with the 7200) and a single HDMI running to my HDTV. Worked like a charm.
I'm in the same boat as you. I've been looking around as well for more info and reviews about the Sony HT7200 especially from owners. So far it's between this Sony and the Samsung AS720 for me. The upscaling DVD player is a plus for the Sony but the Samsung can go up to 7.1 channel.
I just got the HT7200 a couple days ago. It sounds awesome, i can decode Linear PCM so I can listen to Dolby TrueHD 5.1 from the PS3. Everything set up well and the video switching is nice and quick. It also sends the 24p video signal from the ps3 to my tv. I recommend the 7200dh.
The one issue that's preventing me from pulling the trigger on this sony system is the issue of iPod connectivity. I really don't want to spend another $100 on an iPod dock that is included with other systems. Is there an easy way of hooking up an iPod to this system?
You can get a headphone plug to analog audio adapter for cheap. But it won't charge the iPod or allow you to control it with a remote like the docks will. You'll have to use the iPod to control the songs. But it will work.
Thanks for the tip. One potential issue with this setup -- I remember reading that there is no analog audio input on the sony receiver. Can someone comfirm if this is true?
Can anyone tell me what type of connectors the 7200DH has for the speakers? I hate when the speakers (or the receiver) have propreitary connections that won't allow me to lengthen the speaker wire if necessary. I would really prefer if you can change both ends (in case I want to replace the speaker wire or get new speakers.)

No proprietary connections. RTFM, page 16, here: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/mod...HT7200DH&LOC=3
Neo,

How did you find out that it was actually sending 1080/24p to the TV from PS3 while going though the receiver?
when i check the info on my television it says its doing 24 instead of 60.
Awesome, thank you. I found out how to do that yesterday while reading one if the threads. Sony conveniently shows that via "Display" button. How would have thought

I will be receiving my 7200DH on Monday- cant wait to get this baby hooked up.
