I just read this announcement. I'm assuming the academy is trying to boost their ratings by bringing in more younger viewers, but this just kind of blows my mind. Maybe my age (40) is starting to show. Not that I don't think he's funny, but still, I just don't get the connection.

Matters not who hosts. It's still going to be a long, drawn-out, biased affair just like the Grammys year after year. I might care if they opened up the voting to those beyond the academy, or at least let us common folk decide who will host it.

I like Billy Crystal as well. He is funny and he holds to the standards of past hosts like Bob Hope. Chris Rock is funny but I don't see how a network would risk having a controversial comedian with the current climate we are in. They already are going to have Michael Moore there! They better have a 60 second delay or be ready to pay a hefty fine.

Last year Will Farrel (sp?) and Jack Black's brief appaearance as presenters underscored how stale Billy Crystal was. Crystal is witty and can be very funny, but he has lost the zip he used to have. Maybe he was tired. There was a newspaper column on this, but I can't remember who wrote it. I think new blood is needed but I'm not digging on Chris Rock. Maybe it is an age thing. I hope he's funny. I have a feeling people will spend the night cringing, but... what do I know?

I think the problem with Billy Crystal is that he doesn't want to do it anymore. As a result, he doesn't try as hard as he used to. Anytime he's there, it's more of an obligation for him than an honor.


You'll never see anything that lives up to the YMCA skit again.

I used to think he was just loud. Then I watched one of his concerts on Comedy Central recently. And now I think he's one of the brightest and funniest comedians I've ever seen. Because of that I'm guessing he'll instinctively know how to tame his act for this gig. And still keep an edge to it. He'll do fine.

Then again I'm so ridiculously old that I even remember when Lenny Bruce was being escorted off the stage in handcuffs. So we could see another cool celebrity mugshot before it's over.

Chris Rock or no Chris Rock, the young crowd will be gone before the first hour is over. He turned down the opportunity to host twice before, saying he felt he was too young, and for those not aware, he is 38 now.

He said it takes several months to prepare for the Oscars and it has gotten to the point it takes too much out of him to do it year after year. His parody’s at the beginning of the Oscars are classic and to date nothing else has come close.


What a riot several years ago when Jack Palance won, did one-handed pushups and said, “Billy Crystal, ha, I crap bigger than him.†Thought I was going to pee in my pants laughing so hard.


I'd like to see Jim Carrey host. I’d also say Robin Williams, but it wouldn’t end until 3am.

I think Chris Rock is one of the funniest people around today. Nobody is safe during one of his routines. I just hope he makes fun of everybody as they leave the stage.

There will not be a single celebrity that wont feel the wrath of Chris Rock. If you look at his hosting histroy, (2 MTV VMAs) he has always had a take no prisoners attitude about it. Now whether or not this will translate well to the average Oscars watcher, is debatable.


It could be worse, they could have gotten those god awful Wayans Brothers or Jamie Foxx. Speaking of Foxx, it seems all he ever does is host award shows. You would figure with all that practice he would be somewhat watchable.

I like Crystal too but Rock is the funniest man in America. I think this will add some more spice to the show.

C'mon ppl, he'll be great for the show. I'm sure he knows the difference between an HBO special and the Academy Awards.


As mentioned he's 38 now and his humour is targeted at the mature adult who will be watching the awards. I'm sure he'll have more than enough class to be professional.


Robin Williams; very good but, gets annoying over 4 hrs.


Whoopi; Uhmm,,,,,,,,,, A little on the Bland side.


Letterman; "Choke"!


Crystal; A true profeesional, nobody beats his Oscar openings and extremely quick! But he's become a little stale and disenchanted. You can actually sense it.


Rock; Lets give him a chance, I for one am really looking forward to it

I'm pretty sure that Chris Rock will not host the show using the same type of jokes/material that he uses in his act. It will be toned down.
