Ooooh, this looks cool:

Quote:
-You'll go beyond earth as the title implies, making it more like Alpha Centauri.

- Out this Autumn

- You start on an alien world

- There are three types of worlds: Lush, Airy and Fungal

- You'll still be building cities like in CIv V but to expand to other planets you'll use outposts.

- You can be the first to explore a new planet and you may find some neutral creatures/races on those worlds. You can either destroy them or leave them be.

- Relics are still in.

- You can win the game by returning to earth. To do that you'll need to put a satellite in orbit around the earth and you can either return to earth to win or you can bring the refugees of earth to your home world.

- You can use diplomacy with other players right from the start.

- Fog of War is still present

- There are now orbital units that you can command like satellites.

Honestly not sure how I feel about this. It could go either way, I think.

Also, I know it's kind of sacrilege but as much as I love Civ 5, sometimes I miss the console "Civilization Revolution" because of how much quicker and less complicated it is. I just don't have as much time (or maybe it's patience) for 10+ hour games these days. I'd love to see this game be just a little more fast paced now that they're moving away from historical information.

Yeah, I do hope they roll it back to where it was with stock civ V at least. It was like the expansions added back all the complexity that bogged it down.

Sounds interesting though, but I'm still afraid to touch it cause I know I'll lose days of my life to it.

I'm too embarrassed to say how much time I've put into CiV games but most of that time was spent "waiting"
Would definitely have to build a new computer.

I'm totally speechless I'm just now seeing the trailer and thread for this. Hell I remember playing Civ on my 386 and to see the game go this far. I'm going to pick this one up, but will probably have to hold off for awhile for either the Winter sale or maybe a little later.

I'm with you Arutha. I am excited about this one too. I just hope the game graphics are as beautiful as the trailer. Carmack and Abrash should easily target a port of this to be a release title for Oculus Rift in 2015. It sort of has a Mass Effect, Advent Rising sort of feel to me. But without the FPS perspective. And obviously much bigger. And more open world.

I'm still terrified at what that game will do to my life, marriage and personal hygiene. :p

A nice 10 minute video showing off the features of this title with some gameplay snippets:

It releases this Thursday.

Yeah, just got my code sent to me from GMG, so looks like I'll be pre-loading this evening myself.

So I literally have only played around 5 minutes (as the game crashed on me), but so far it looks to be the exact opposite of what I was hoping for. The Tech Web is ridiculously overwhelming. I didn't really expect any differently, but still.

Also, disappointed to see that despite the fact it's mostly a reskinned Civ 5 (obviously that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but still they both run on the same engine), Beyond Earth has zero touchscreen support. In Civ 5, Firaxis had a great multitouch based interface for playing the game without a keyboard.
