Both DVD Empire and Amazon.com have announced pre-order availability of Clash Of The Titans (August 6, 2002), a fantasy film that is high on many movie buff's list, including mine; have ordered a copy from DVDE already!

Unfortunately, technical information anout the DVD transfer given by both retailers is rather skimpy, relegated to simply stating the transfer will be anomorphic and with an aspect ratio of 1:85:1 ("flat"); no mention as to what the soundtrack will be was given.

Here again, I just want an image that's EE and other video-derived artifacts free as possible, clearly detailed and sharp as the format allows.

A well mixed soundtrack in 5.1 would be the icing on the cake too!...

I'm also really excited about this. Yet another title to soon cross off from the top of the waiting list.

I think I'll have to watch this one alone...my wife still thinks Harry Hamlin is a hunk!

Yes, WB will be the "culprit" in bringing us this tittle.

COTT (love it! :D ) exhibited quite a bit of film grain in original theatrical prints; that was true when I first saw the flick when it first came out...and remained so even up to fairly recently (a few years back anyway) when I viewed it again on 35mm at a private exhibition.

Btw, the widescreen LD transfer shared much of that "problem" too.

This had to present quite a transferring challenge for telecine operators and authoring techs, so let's hope the DVD visual PQ results exceed in quality those from previous video transfers...

pinnacle of stop motion animation

Nah... Jason. Talos, the Hydra, the skeletons. And a Bernard Herrmann score! 7th Voyage of Sinbad my runner up.

King Kong, of course, is in a class by itself.

Titans... I don't know. Pegasus didn't look good (mammals are extremely difficult to animate; to my mind only Kong and Son of Kong looked good) the Kraken looked bad, the owl was R2D2 cutesy-poo. Undistinguished to poor performances from all, even Olivier (but that is to be expected in Harryhausen films). Medusa was pretty sharp, however.

wouldn't "Chicken Run" be the pinnacle of stop-motion video?

You have a very good point. Wallace and Gromit's The Wrong Trousers and A Close Shave are also contenders
