Hello,

Can a Classe CAV-150 owner tell me what the power ratings are for 4 Ohms load. I cannot find that anywhere, and the classe distributor in Holland will not give me that. He just tells me it is sufficient..

I have 4 Ohms main speakers, and 6 Ohms center an Surround. So if it cannot handle decently 4 Ohms loads i better look elsewhere.

But all the reviews i have read from Classe amps the lower impedancys were no problem (omega, 301) But that seesm to be a newer generation, so perhaps a different design.

The CAV-500 looks promesing, but rather expansive in Holland.

Thanks in advance, Jaco

Yes indeed there are specs there, but ... only 8 Ohms ratings like everywhere else. i know it is rated 150 Watts for 6 channels at 8 Ohms.

But i would like to know from owners of the amp if they have info what the power rating on 4 Ohm is, and if the amp can drive 6 channels with 4 ohms speakers.

jaco:

I use the amp for my 86db sens. Aerial Acoustics speakers. I've found this to be an exceptional amplifier after auditioning numerous alternatives. The Classe customer service is horrendous, though.

My config:

3x300 for center and surrounds. The Aerial CC3/SR3s probably go down to 2 ohms or so somewhere in the frequency spectrum.

If you call Classe, they should be able to tell you what the power output is at 2,4 ohms. You want them to double down if possible. (4ohms power rating = 2x 8ohms, 2ohms = 2x 4 ohms, etc..) You might have to call several times or wait on hold for an hour though.

The manual does not cover this.

Audition the amplifier if you can.

Regards, Mark

Mark,

Thanks.

Being in Europe, in stead of the US will make calling the Canadian manufacturer expensive, and somwhat hard (tiume zone difference)

My dealer is really trying to sell me Classe, he speaks very well of it.

Compared to my current Yamaha and Merdian Amps they will be better i think.

I am not really looking into doubling of power (i agree that power should be doubled if impedance is halfed in theory)

A test of a classe 301 showed that even that modell does not double the wattage exactly. (although it had more power than what classe advertises - 410/700/1100 watt at 8/4/2 ohms, while classe rates it at 2 x 300)

But i geuss this line of amps is not the same as an CAV-150.

I am just interested that it can handel my mix of the 4 and 6 Ohm speakers without overheating or distortion or whatever.

If i had the Money i would properbly by the CAV-500.

Thanks for the answers.

I once asked Classe support, and they confirmed that it was no problem driving 4 Ohm load for all 6 channels, but on my question for the power rating i got nothing back.

I just ask this here, because if i try to get a number of multi channel amps at home from my dealer, i want to make sure i do not end up with some uggly surprises. (My dealer has to get multichannel amps from the country distributor, since he has none in stock)

Thanks again for the help.
