Where I teach there appears to be funding for electronics for the classroom (college level) and I came up with an idea of a projector on a rolling cart with a notebook computer that plays DVD's and is also on a wireless network. We can show DVD films as well as Internet sites that can be blown up on a pull down screen.

The problem is ambient light. There are shades but they don't do a great job in keeping out the light. Therefore we need a projector with good light output. I was thinking of a business model can can also be used for DVD films. I am trying to keep expenses for the projector to around $1,500.

Any suggestions out there?

You are going to have a tough time at that price point.

For that category in education sales, an LCD projector is typically recommended (lets not start a DLP vs. LCD debate folks ... facts are facts).

In a classroom, you are also going to want a minimum of ~2000 lumens.

2000 lumens + LCD +

Thanks for the input. I am going to try and look at the projectors you recommended and make a decision after that. Unfortunately there may be a rather short time frame to make a decision but your list gives me a good starting point.
