I am a professor teaching MIS and statistics. Looking to spice up the lectures a bit--especially for stat and was hoping to get help from the guys and gals that frequent this group.

If you have ever watched Jim Cramer's financial show, you've seen the special effects board that allows him to play sound clips. I would like something similar using a remote control.

Ideally, it would be a pocket sized RF control with many buttons (perhaps 30 or 40) that I could receive on my notebook and script to play mapped sounds or launch programs. I probably do not want an actual portable display as quick access to a set of sounds would be preferable to having to scroll etc.

I have a laptop with mp3 files and eternal speakers. I can program ala x10 etc, if necessary but would prefer something that would not require me to hard code the sounds etc so I can switch them out. And it would be nice for there to be a kill button to allow me to kill the currently playing sound if I need to limit its duration.

Any of you creative minds here have a glimmer of an idea of the best way to go at this???

Thanks

1) ATI remote wonder 2 -- about $30.00

2) Eventghost software - open source -- very cool

3) winamp

4) CLAMP -- addin for winamp that allows command line execution.

Works pretty well -- end up with about 250 configurable buttons. (5 logical devices each w/ more than 40 buttons)
