I haven't been on here in a while - my system has been humming along for many years with no problems. I recently noticed, however, that the MyHD Program Guide is no longer being populated by the SD data. I updated the CW-EPG to the latest version and, after 2 days, the guide is still not populating.
Hi, Thorny1!
There's been no change at the SD end so it has to be a local problem. Please PM me for directions on how to provide diagnostics so that we can get to the bottom of this.

EDIT: It turns out that this MyHD issue is my fault :(, the result of using a newer database file format than MyHD wants for the OSD file. If there are any other MyHD OSD users out there who, so far, silently would like a patched version to address this, please PM me.

BTW, with the help of a generous tester near Padua, Italy we've got the latest test version of CW_EPG vetted for operation in the EU on their DVB-T version of the HDHR tuners. We could well use some additional testers from other regions supported by the Schedules Direct JSON database; e.g., Latin America or the Caribbean Islands.

Version 4.4.3 released

It no longer needs a previous version installation. Third release is always the charm, right? 😊

Go to the first post in this thread for more information or simply jump to the Support Page to get the new installer.

I've just installed the latest version. So far I've seen some major improvements and a couple of minor issues. It seems to start up a little faster than it used to but the best change is that going to the Options page, which used to take several seconds, is now immediate. Thank you!

I also like being able to change the size of the Main and Auto Settings windows but the Options window is not adjustable and now the bottom of that window cuts through the middle of the Schedules Direct password field, at least on my display (1360x768).

The other issue is very minor. The latest download is CW_EPG_Setup_4_4_3_1 but the About page lists it as 4.4.3.0.

I was also interested in the note on the CW_EPG Support Page that said "There is a new version soon ready for testing that uses the Schedules Direct JSON database covering much of Europe and Latin America, as well as North America." I'd been hoping that CW_EPG would switch to using the JSON database because it includes TV series season and episode numbers (ex.: S03E08) where available. I hope that will eventually be added as one of the File Name Options.

@ebo: Thanks for the feedback. I see what you mean about the 1366x768 Options window and it's even worse at 1280x720 (both of which I thought we had tested). It does look great at 3840x2160 though! 😛 We'll have to address that in a minor update soon.

EDIT: I also meant to say that we'll take the S03E08 suggestion under advisement for the JSON version.

BTW, that JSON version, which may be distributed via the MSFT Store, could also drop support for discontinued Windows versions as well as moribund tuner types. What are folks' reactions to those ideas?

If there are any MyHD users following this thread, please note that the CW_EPG version 4.4.3 now posted on the Support Page does fully support MyHD (and WinXP) so you need not stick with an old version. If you do (because "it ain't broke") you're forgoing some really neat stuff as well as a much easier channel mapping that takes a lot of the sting out of recovering from FCC repacking shuffles. I'm just sayin'....

The current version linked on the Support Page is 4.4.3.5, which fixes a bug that was preventing Autoruns from completing correctly on some PCs. It also has a minor facelift on the About tab.

Hi @TPeterson

I hope you can please help me with this. When starting CW_EPG I'm getting a nag screen pop-up: "Your Schedules Direct Account expires on 12/12"
and this message is duplicated in the Log.

However, my SD account does not expire on 12/12... that will happen sometime in October, and CW_EPG continues to retrieve SD data and otherwise works just fine. I first noticed the nag about a week ago while running version 4.3.1. Upgrading to CW_EPG 4.4.3.5 / CWHelper 4.4.1.677 today didn't eliminate the erroneous nag pop-up or log message.

Is there a way to get rid of the nag?

Thanks!

P.S. Looks like I spoke too soon! Now when I open CW_EPG the nag screen is gone. And, the SD expiration warning isn't tacked on to every new Log entry either. Wouldja! I wonder what other problems are going to fix themselves today.

That implies SD pulls its expiration data from more than one place internally. I was seeing the 12/12 error daily for the last two weeks or so, while my account status on their website showed October expiration.

Maybe it's somehow related to cloning my C: drive to SSD and switching over? That's about when the problem began. Yes, I doubt it too. Odd that no one else has noticed, though.

Dunno what happened, as I've not seen or heard this before. CW_EPG refreshes the expiration date from SD every time it does a data download, so even if there was a corrupted entry on your SSD it shouldn't have persisted for days unless you never updated the schedules. Glad it's fixed.

BTW, I noticed an inconsistency in the installation instructions. In the (pinned to the top) first post of this thread it states:

"Special Note for tinkerers: It's come to my attention that some folks have tried setting the "run as administrator" flag or some earlier OS compatibility mode in the properties of our program files. Please don't do that! These programs run just fine with no compatibility or elevated-privilege flags and setting them can cause program failures."

While the very first line of the Quickstart pdf states:

"Installing CW_EPG
(Windows Vista and Windows 7 users: It’s best to run the setup exe “as Administrator” from the file’s right-click menu)"

The CW_EPG update process worked just fine on my Windows 7 PC without right clicking > Run as Administrator. But I'm using an account with Administrator privileges, so I guess the "Run as Admin" flag is set anyway?

All I really know is that the update completed without drama for me. :)

There's actually no inconsistency there (although I'll admit there's a source of confusion). The setup exe must run with admin privileges, but the actual app exe files should not be flagged (via tinkering) to run that way. Post-XP Windows versions automatically enforce the setup's privileges. The installation instructions date back to and cover XP, where there was no UAP warning.

NOTICE: Version 5.0 of CW_EPG, using the Schedules Direct JSON database and therefore supporting international TV listings, is available on the Microsoft Store under "Cliff Watson EPG Program". It fully supports all tuners and migrates all settings from existing installations. If you're running Windows 10, check it out! All you folks outside of North America, welcome aboard!

Note to the "it ain't broke" folks:

Two enhancements in the version 5 app over version 4, in addition to supporting non-N. American markets, are a 50% longer schedule time-view (18 days v. 12) and inclusion of the Gracenote SxxEyy designation in the program descriptions.

In case you're in the "don't need no Windows 10!" or "don't wanna use the Windows Store!" camp but would like to try version 5.0, post a request here and I'll update post #1 with a link to a non-Store version that will run on Windows XP through 10. Otherwise, I'll assume that all you campers are happy with version 4.x and save myself the hassle.
