I have a media closet with a 44U rack in it that is full. I put 4x120mm fans in the door behind vents to try and circulate air. There are two intake fans at the bottom and two exhaust fans at the top. Each fan is 88CFM so there is 176CFM intake and 176CFM exhaust. The issue is the back of the closet stays hot while the front cools, I think it is because the rack blocks the air from circulating in the closet and I get some convection in the front of the closet but not the back. Surrounding the closet is a garage and outside wall, I don't want to ventilate into non-air conditioned space. I have attached a picture showing the setup. Anyone have any advice/tips on how to get the back cooling?

Can you turn or move the rack so you could get a fan behind the components? If not, you might consider venting outside.


Just a few thoughts off the top of my head....

Instead of having a intake and a output fan reverse the intake so they both pull out air. That may allow it to start removing the hot air from the back.
