I'm hoping the Board at our condo will approve spending some $$$ next month for a Clubhouse TV. We have a 42" on the wall right now but we can use that in the gym. Once we re-furnish the lounge, with football season coming up, we'll want something more than 42".


The TV will be wall-mounted and pretty high up -- figure the center of the TV is about 8' above the ground and maybe 12-14' from where the new sofa/couch will be.

Ideally, I'd like to get some recommendations for the best 60" or 65" plasma TV that we can afford. I don't know the budget yet, maybe $1,500 give-or-take. It is NOT important that we get the TV with the greatest features; we don't need Internet access or tons of glitzy options or even an ultra-thin model. Size and then PQ are the most important options.


Ideally, if I could get one, what was probably the 'hot' plasma model from 18-24 months ago would probably be perfect for our needs, though I doubt I could buy a new one and we're not gonna buy from an obscure online place or buy used/refurbished.


I'm thinking LG or Panasonic models from late-2009 or early-2010...any model numbers jump out at you ?

Suggestions welcome and appreciated.

I assume your clubhouse is pretty bright. You will likely want a TV with decent anti-reflection properties, which would rule out the cheaper LGs. I own one - they are like mirrors. I can't speak to Samsung or Panasonic.

The 2008 PZ80U/PZ85U/PZ800U/PZ850U series were very good for their time. Good AR Filter, Good Black Levels, and the screen was pretty bright (unlike the 2007 models). It's extremely unlikely that you'll find a new one, and Panasonic doesn't allow their TVs to be refurbished so maybe look for a used one.

Sure, the ST30 would be a better set - but at a higher price. For a "public" location, would want the Lowest-Priced Acceptable Solution...


And a group watching football is not likely to be nearly as Critical about PQ issues than most individuals who frequent this forum are likely to be.

S30 would be better than the ST30 because of the screen filter. The ST30 filter makes the picture darken if you aren't viewing it directly head on.

You can get a 60" ST30 in the price range. There are places in the NY metro area that sell it. Just do a google search.

Randy, what followed the PZ80U's ??? With a discounted price chop or two (they've been out 6-12 months I guess), they should probably be in our price range.

Hmmmm....good question, I probably should see how the TV now looks in mid-day and at night with lights on.


As I said, it's wall-mounted about 7-8' high at the center.....ceiling lights are probably 15-20' high (high roof but the lights dangle down a few feet).....windows are length of both sides of the room, probably 15-18' away on both sides.


I'll see how it looks during afternoons (NFL Sundays) and at night (Sunday/Monday night football).

Yes, but you can get a much better price locally if you dig around. I think there's a place in linden, NJ. The 60ST30 is a much better TV than the 60S30.

I'm just trying to help the guy get the best TV in his price range from a retailer near where he lives. I have no affiliation with them other than I bought a TV from them a few years back.


If you have any evidence of their running a scam, please provide it. I would like to know about it so I'll know not to buy another TV from them.

Randy, would that matter where I bought it ? I'd have Panasonic behind the TV anyway, right, unless the TV is broken out of the box and they go out of bizness before I could take it back.

I didn't know they didn't have a physical retail store. How would I? Anyway amazon doesn't have one either and it's very common for internet retailers not to have a brick and mortar store. I kind of remember when I bought my TV, they offered to give me a discount if I picked it up. I live in Maryland and the discount was only like $30, so it wasn't a realistic option. This was over 2 years ago and my memory isn't perfect, so maybe I'm not remembering properly.


What they did was deliver the TV for free and the delivery guy plugged in the TV to show me it worked before I paid him. It doesn't guarantee the TV is perfect, but it's more than anyone who delivers via UPS or fedex will get.


Who cares if they're located behind a junkyard? Maybe this explains why their prices are low. They have low rental costs. I have no idea where most internet retailers are located. I don't care as long as they give me what I ordered at the agreed upon price.


I'm not saying they have fantastic customer service. Anyone who expects that from a discount NY City retailer is dillusional. But, accusing me of being a shill for the company for making a one time suggestion that someone consider buying from them is crazy.

Costco has a very good Panasonic Plasma, 60" S30 (Costco model S34), for a very good price right now. Screen may be a bit too reflective for the clubhouse, but its worth a look.

FINALLY !!! Looks like our funds finally came through....we are trying to stretch for a 70" but the costs (~$1,500-$1,700) are really a jump up from the 60" (~$875 - $1,000).


Again, we just want a QUALITY TV....our Clubhouse seats are anywhere from 8-15' away (the TV will be wall-mounted about 6-8' feet high).


I'd appreciate some updated suggestions....again, ideally I am looking for a "hot TV" a year ago that is now being discounted so it's cheaper. A new state-of-the-art big TV will be unaffordable and besides, we have no use for NetFlix, fancy LCD/LED technologies, Internet access, etc.

The guys want a big TV for football, the gals for movies and soaps. I'd like to hear your best, affordable 70" options.
