I have a Toshiba 36a40 television that is about 5 years old and today in the lower right corner the color has a purple hue to it. It's affecting approx. 20% of the screen. It has also developed on the lower left hand side only not as drastic.


Does anyone know what could cause this?? Is my picture tube going bad?? Any advice or input would be appreciated.

This type of discoloration can be caused by a magnet. Are the purple spots near your set's speakers? Kids with magnets? This can also be caused by an impact, if something impacted your set. The good news is that degausing will usually fix this unless the impact was severe.

it is right above the tv's speakers and the set hasn't been hit. You said degausing will fix this, what is deguasing?
