ColorFact: What cable?

Hi Robert,

The sensor is mounted on a tripod mount and has an 8 foot USB cable.

If you wish to run a cable through the walls I would suggest running a USB extension cable, possibly terminating in a wall outlet (for aesthetics).

Personally, I have a 6 foot USB extension cable permanently attached to my HTPC, and then plug in the Colorfact 8 foot USB cable into the end of that. That also gives me 14 feet to position the tripod away from the computer.

BTW, for the record, the USB spec. indicates that the run length of USB cabling not exceed 12 feet, but I have not found that to be a problem in practice. I have been running two 6-foot USB extensions and the 8 foot Colorfacts cable end-to-end (20 feet) without any degradation.

Another question, to know where my cable must go: does the colorfact device has to be put near the screen or near the projector? My throw distance is 13.5 meters, and I fear that the light output near the screen will be to low to be easily measurable near 0 IRE.

Hi Mark,

What kind of cable will the suggested analyzer for Colorfact use? Plain RS232?

Knowing it in advance would allow me to pass it in the walls while I can.
