ColourSpace ZRO is a free license version of ColourSpace for Manual Display Calibration and Verification.

It's expected to be the leading solution in consumer/professional level free calibration solutions with a modern interface and simple to use as the first choice to the calibration journey.

The typical problem of other free calibration solutions (like HCFR) is that they are not available for up-to-date guides, so while the software is fine, it will complex in operation for the average users with limited experience in calibration.

ColourSpace will always have up-to-date guides, an on-line interactive manual, and videos to explain the features, settings, graphs, and necessary details for new users.

ColourSpace ZRO will support the following measurement instruments:

Colorimeters (official):

Datacolor Spyder4 Express
Datacolor Spyder4 Pro
Datacolor Spyder4 Elite
Datacolor Spyder5 Express
Datacolor Spyder5 Pro
Datacolor Spyder5 Elite
Datacolor SpyderX Pro
Datacolor SpyderX Elite
X-Rite i1Display PRO OEM

Colorimeters (unofficial, contact me for more info):

X-Rite i1 Display Pro Retail
X-Rite i1 Display Pro PLUS Retail
X-Rite i1 Display Studio
X-Rite ColorMunki Display
HP DreamColor
SpectraCAL C6
SpectraCAL C6HDR
SpectraCAL C6HDR2000
Portrait Displays C6HDR2000
NEC SpectraSensor Pro
Quato Silver Haze 3
Wacom Color Manager
ASUS ProArt

Spectrophotometers:

X-Rite i1PRO
X-Rite i1PRO2
X-Rite i1PRO3
X-Rite i1PRO3 Plus

Pattern Generator:

ColourSpace iTPG using HDMI

External Hardware Pattern Generators:

PGenerator (Free Version)
PGenerator (Ted's Calibration Disk Version)

Disk Pattern Generator Support:

Ted's LightSpace CMS Calibration Disk (Blu-Ray Disk or MP4/MKV Media Files using LightSpace's DIP Mode or Manual Calibration using patchlist import.)

Features / Capabilities:

ColourSpace ZRO will be a reduced in functions license level of ColourSpace.

It will have 2D Charts (not 3D Volumetric Charts), no saving of measurements runs, no PDF reporting, no volumetric measurements; characterization/LUTs menus will not be available.

Users will able to configure their chart size/layout using multiple windows to see only the charts they want, without limitation.

Users will able to create custom patchlists (simple CVS files) to measure using PGenerator (or internal generator), to verify with more detail, even with a volumetric patchset.

Users of Ted's LightSpace Calibration Disk will able to import the custom patchlist for manual calibration/verification).

Using DeviceControl, users will able to DDC Sony/Panasonic TVs and use ColourSpace ZRO for measurements.

ColourSpace ZRO is not out yet; let's have this thread for further user discussion/question etc.

Coming Soon...

LightIllusion is not far away from the first 'Beta' release of ColourSpace ZRO.

The initial Beta will be a limited release for gaining feedback from users and make any necessary changes before doing a wider release.

LightIllusion is interested in hearing from potential ZRO users, that are not already ColourSpace owners.

If you are interested in gaining access to the first Beta release, please request access using the Beta Program request form.

(In the LightSpace/ColourSpace invoice number box, enter Free ZRO Beta Request)

Please explain what your existing calibration experience is and what software you presently use when making the request.

ColourSpaceZRO Beta 1.0.0.826 (12 December 2020)

Release Notes

First Beta.

Download

If you are interested in gaining access to the first Beta release, please request access using the Beta Program request form.

(In the LightSpace/ColourSpace invoice number box, enter Free ZRO Beta Request)

After receiving your free license key, you can use that form to request a Download Link or send Feedback. (the password is known to Beta Testers).

Installation Notes

ColourSpaceZRO Installer will completely overwrite any previously installed version, not just update it.

It will not require to un-install older releases before installing a newer version.

Update Notes

While ColourSpaceZRO is working in beta, when the users start ColourSpaceZRO, it will not pop-up notification to inform them about the availability of newer beta.

However, I will update this thread but also refresh the form page with release notes text per each beta.

Hi Ted, I just installed the beta, but when I try to connect to my xrite i1 display pro I get the ‘the device is password locked’ message. What should I do?

Hi,

You can find a 'contact us' link to the first post about the non-OEM (unofficial) colorimeter support.

just to be sure I’m doing all correct.

I connect my laptop with the LG CX through hdmi
I set black level on LOW
Extended desktop output is set on RGB 8 bit
Patch resolution 16-235

until here it should be ok.

If I want to calibrate a 2.2 gamma, how do I set it in colour space?

When I use the regular menu 20 point calibration, and I change the values of red and blue, in order to balance it, nothing seems to happen when I make new readings. If I set the output to YCBCR and the patches are 0-255, then the changes I do have an effect it the next readings. Why is it so?

Thanks

When you connect your laptop and extend the desktop, you need to make sure that when outputting RGB 8-Bit, that Quantization Range is also set to Full, as when left at Default this usually outputs Limited Range.

3067672

With it set this way, you must manually set Black Level -> Low on the LG, and Patch Scale 16-235 in ColourSpace to make adjustments.

You can set Patch Scale 16-255 to measure and evaluate above 100% (Super White) for issues such as Colour Clipping, but you should always use Patch Scale 16-235 to make manual adjustments in this set up.

If you are leaving Quantization Range at Default/Limited or sending YCbCr, then the video signal is already in Limited Range (16-235), so your Patch Scale in this case needs to be 0-255.

I suspect the reason you are seeing these issues is because your laptop is currently outputting RGB Limited in Extended Desktop mode causing a levels mismatch.

To make adjustments to 2.2 Gamma, you can set Target Gamut to sRGB (it has Power Law 2.2 Gamma in ColourSpace). Or you can create your own Target Gamut with your own specified white point, gamma etc.

View the ColourSpace Interactive User Manual for more information. While much of it is focused on the higher paid license versions for display profiling and LUT Generation, the interface and other general functions remain the same in ColourSpace ZRO.

Thanks for your explanation, I’ll give it a try!
Hi,

It's not recommended to use an untested PC output for patch generation.

Several details in the windows or settings of your GPU can affect the video signal output.

Windows have VCGT, ICC, and the GPU has many settings/enhancements etc.

YCbCr is not ideal output to use with a PC because you have no control if the conversion matrix used to convert RGB to YCbCr has used the correct REC.709 matrix.

If you want a low-cost pattern generation solution developed specifically to generate bit-perfect RGB patches, see for PGenerator.

If you still want to use your PC, set TV HDMI Black Level @ LOW, set your GPU to output RGB-Full/Data, and set

Patchscale in ColorSpace @ Settings (Min 16 Max 235).

Disable ICC, VCGT, disable all enhancements of your GPU.

Using that combination of settings, you will able to output RGB-Video levels (16-235).

Is Lightspace connect installed on a Amazon Firestick a valid method to generate patterns that I read with colourspace Zro?
The Amazon FireStick (1080p) I have checked, it had small rounding/digital errors.

These errors are coming from the hardware, but application don't have control to these processing steps of the device.

Tips about Customization of Interface

If you want to open a new chart window while holding the Control Key of your keyboard, click on any of the icons of the Profiling window. (red stroke indication to the above picture)

If you want to zoom in/out a chart, click+hold the right mouse button and then move the mouse: 'Up' direction to zoom in / 'Down' direction to Zoom out. (blue stroke indication to the above picture)

If you want to move the chart to any direction, then hold the left mouse button and move to any direction.

If you hold both left and right mouse buttons at the same time, then it can zoom in/out and also move simultaneously.

If you want to see specific point info, double left mouse clicks to a point (see green stroke indication to the above picture) of a CIE Chart.

If you have taken several measurements and you want to see the point window of all grayscale points, then tick from the filters of Graph Options only the 'Gray Scale', and you will see to the CIE chart only the grayscale points.

Using the left mouse, double click to any of those grayscale of the CIE chart, you will see a Point Window with all GrayScale points.

Are the custom patchlists available also for users of Ted’s disk, Pgenerator edition? I would like to run the primary only patchset, so that I can check the rgb separation, but it seems that the cube modifications are only available to colourspace full edition users.

when I am sending the triplets with Pgenerator, clicking on the ‘show patch’ button shows the patch on the laptop monitor, but doesn’t turn on or off the patch on the screen connected to Pgenerator. Is there another function to turn on-off the patch on the connected screen? I ask because after I do the readings, the only way I found to have a black screen is to manually set the rgb sliders to 0,0,0. I would find useful to have a ‘send black signal’ button.

did you think about providing a fully functional trial version of colourspace ? I think that may convince many people to buy it even for a simple home use.

ColourSpace is still in beta, for both the ZRO and paid versions, so some things aren't yet incorporated. The ZRO editions of LightSpace and ColourSpace are fully functional for manual calibrations. LightSpace ZRO works with all the meters and pattern generators that the paid versions do, while ColourSpace ZRO is limited to non-pro meters (the X-Rite and Spyder meters, essentially) . Neither gives you LUT production or management capabilities.
