Comcast DVR questions

Ok, I've read some good stuff about the upcoming DCT6412 and am thinking of switching from Satellite. However, I would like to hear from some of you who already have Comcast DVR. One thing I need to know is there a seperate $9.95 charge for each DVR you have in the household? Our main TV upstairs really only needs a regular DVR, but my HDTV is downstairs, which I would also like a DVR.

Yes.

Comcast also requires a subscription to their digital package before you can lease the DVR, so you're looking at a base subscription fee of $50 to $65/mo, depending on your particular Comcast system. Add $9.95/mo for each HDTV DVR, or $5/mo for each HDTV set-top box.

You can find Comcast's digital package pricing in your area by entering your zip code on their web site .
Comcast NJ - Union/Verona

I'd would have rather had DirecTV. But I'm so committed and entrenched in Comcast that I can't turn back. I'm glad I don't now.

I have their High Speed Internet which I find to be great.

My kids love the VOD and the kids VOD stuff is free. Can't beat that. Their DVR is no Tivo, but getting there.

Comcast maybe cost more, but maybe, I'm getting more. Who knows. Each situation is different. You need to see what is important to you.

I've got high hopes for the MSTV DVR stuff-hopefully it is similar to UltimateTV or Media Center, which are both excellent DVRs

I just plugged in my zip code just to see what prices came up, and it tells me that HD isn't available in my area. If that's the case, who have I been renting an HD cable box from for the last 18 months? It also says HSI isn't available, but I've had that for 2 years.
You've got to call them to get the real info, their website info is terrible.

I know in Central Jersey they had a $25 a month credit for 16 months if you turn in your old satellite equipment. It's not a contract, they just credit you for up to sixteen months as long as you subscribe to a digital package.

I'm getting Digital Silver w/ Starz, include HD and onDemand, for $69/mo and then another $10 a month for the DVR. So $79 - $25 leaves me at $55 +tax a month for the next year and a quarter.

AFter that mayve DirectTivo will have an affordable HD box (although I'll probably be hooked to Comcast SportsNET like it's crack by then).
Although the base price for Comcast is high, you may want to ask about their buyback program. I currently have DISH HD and I will be going to Comcast soon, they offer $25 off a month for 16 months to come from Dish, and also I can sell my DISH equipment for 200+ I am sure. Figure in the discount and your looking at around 55 post tax for DUAL HD-DVR, Digital Silver, and HDTV package.
