 My wife just received our billed and it showed 23 Adult PPV charges for the last month. We've never ordered Adult PPV in our 8+ year history with Comcast. Apparently someone's hacked into our box or network. Comcast is sending a tech out to check out the box but they don't want to believe us. Has anyone seen anything like this?

My kids are 1 and 3. Comcast said these were ordered during the afternoon and it takes multiple clicks past a confirmation screen to order. It definately wasn't my kids as my wife is there supervising them 24/7

That must have been a fun conversation between you and the wife.

I wish my wife was that enthusiastic about adult content, but she's not. Any other ideas?

Billing confusion/mistake on Comcast's part?

Ask them to reimburse and monitor the ordering process for your address. If they balk... speak to Comcast management. If that doesn't work, try the BBB.

I have seen manual recordings on our tivo from the kids just "pushing button" and I know how a 3 year old and a 1 year old can push the buttons, with their feet, their nose, fingers, teeth....

Get a new wife..? :)

Seriously though, do what Ratman suggests, they should be able to monitor it..my guess is though that your billing is crossed-up with someone else's.

This sort of thing happened all the time when I did tech support for an electronics manucfaturer. The customers would call us screaming because D* told them to call us for faulty equipment. It was usually a provider issue as receivers cannot order by themselves. I would say it was D* fault, nine out of ten times. I have had no dealings with Comcast, so it's kinda hard to say it's the same situation. But it sounds like mis-billing to me.

Well, if he's unlucky it may be the wife's boyfriend.

If he's lucky it may be the wife's girlfriend.

C'mon guys... the guy has two toddlers and a bill for 23 Porn-per-views and all you can do is bust his cajones and make jokes about his wife?

Nice...:(

I don't know anything about digital cable hacking but it is possible his box was "cloned" like what is done with cell phones? Can these purchases be traced back to his actual street address, or are authorizations just sent globally down the line to everyone and only the correct boxes accept them? That's the way I thought it worked, since splitters are used on the poles along the street.

It really doesn't matter "how" it is or could be done. It wasn't ordered and Comcast must resolve the issue.

All they need to do is replace the cable box and remove the charges. If it happens the next month, they can investigate the same as the phone company can trace/track misuse/fraud.

if you don't ever order pay movies, have them lower your movie Limit to $0 or you can put on a purchase code on box to prevent pay movies from being ordered.

Sorry, It's NOT possible.

On an SA network, The proccess is as follows:

Set top reports the event info that was purchased. This includes the event ID and the Mac addy of the set top that ordered it. This info is stored on the set top server until the billing system pulls the info and posts the buy from the event ID to the acct. that the mac addy is tied to. The mac address CAN NOT be cloned. There are two possible reasons for what happens. First and foremost: You children ordered the events (however this happened is not relevant). The second: If you had your set top replaced recently>( loosely used term ), the previous one may have been repaired and installed in another acct. and it was not removed from your acct.

Ultimately, A set top server (DNCS on an SA system) had reported buys to the billing system for a specific MAC address. Set tops DO NOT order movies on there own. It's not possible the way the software is written, There needs to be multiple steps and confirmations.

What you need to do is work with Comcast and come to an agreement. THEN activate the parental control feature's of the set top and or have comcast disable to IPPV feature of the set top.
