Has anybody heard about any rollout news for Comcast HD in Dalllas.

Last I heard, it was MAYBE the end of 2003

I mean come on.. Savannah, GA. has it already and the 5 million-plus here in the metroplex don't.

I cant get the dish in my apartment and Ive got a new Toshiba CW34x92 I want to take advantage of.

Also, does anybody have a digital cable box in Dallas that has either an S-video out or at least 2 RCA video outs

I called Comcast about a week ago; the CSR knew nothing about plans to introduce HDTV service or even Dolby Digital over any of the channels.

Someone posted a couple of weeks ago that it would be end of summer 2003; but he also said they would be offering NFL Sunday Ticket which I thought was still a DirectTV exclusive, so I don't know how accurate that is. Comcast is one of the signatories to the HD unscrambled to the TV agreement by the end of 2004, but lets hope we don't need to wait that long.

My GI/Motorola box has neither of what you ask for; I got it 2 years ago during the TCI-AT&T switchover, maybe some of the newer ones offer one or both.

Thanks for posting this topic - I was just about post the same thing.

I'm a bit fed up with Comcast. A call to them always gets you a different response. One rep told me that something would be happening this summer to the service. The implication was that Dolby digital was going to be included (I think I was talking about a hook up to my receiver) but I don't know if that also meant HD.

I do have an s-video connection on my Motorola cable box. My original box didn't have one. Someone at work who has my same TV mentioned that they used the s-video on their cable box. Until then I had no idea it was possible. I called Comcast and arranged to pick up a box with s-video. Looks exactly the same as the last box.

I'd really like to stick with cable since there's no long term commitment but it's totally unacceptable to have Comcast not be able to tell you their plans. If they don't want to commit to a date that's fine, just tell me you have no plans right now. Most of the time they just say they aren't allowed to discuss any future plans for my area. I wonder if they realize that consumers have a choice and can switch to satellite?

PretzelB,

If you could reply to me directly at
[email protected] with the model# and where you got the box with s-video that would be great.

I stopped by the big center in Farmers Branch and got the info on the Motorola boxes with s-video and was told just to have that noted on my transfer of service(im moving cross-town)

I called CS and they said there were no such boxes. I then got rather upset telling them that why would customer service say there are no boxes with s-video when I had 3 different technicans tell me what box to order. NTS, i got upset.

So if you could give me some detailed info on the box, i could go back to them and tell them what i wanted

Thanks, PD

not much.. but I really believe that half of Comcast doesnt know what the other half is doing.

I've been given 3 different stories about its rollout here. From the end of the year to at least 3 years away

In any case, it doesnt look good
