Comcast HDTV STB

If I order Comcast cable HD service, what model box am I going to get? I checked their website, which sucks. I called CS and had to tell the CS rep what a STB was. I'm looking at getting a TV with and HDMI connector, so I assume I want a STB with HDMI out. I've heard people have problems with going from DVI out to HDMI in.

Also, if you were getting a TV with HDMI in, how would you connect it to get the best possible picture. I'm looking at buying an RCA 60" DLP HD61LPW162.

Thanks - Jack

What you get depends on location. Try posting in the local reception forum in your local Comcast thread.

That said, when I had my install the first box the guy brought in didn't have DVI out. He had to go back out to his truck and get an identical model that had the output.

I don't know why anyone would have issues going from DVI to HDMI. It's just a simple adaptor cable. Do note, however, that there have been issues with Comcast implementing HDCP on the Moto boxes. Right now it's not that big of an issue, it simply requires that you flip the channel up and then down if you've switched to some other source while the STB was on.

Finally, if you're getting a DLP set, I'd use DVI/HDMI.
Thanks for the input - Jack.
A little bit more info on my LG LST-4200a problem. At the suggestion of a KQED Engineer I scanned all channels with the cable connection disconnected (to clear out the memory potentially) and then rescanned with the cable attached - it made no difference. I still could not go to back to any of the 117 channels once I had left them.

However what I did find out is that after 8pm (when KQED HD comes online) every subchannel on 117 is now showing a medium strength signal. I manually entered bogus ones like 117-77 and 117-99 and I always get a signal, but a black screen and no sound. It is almost like the box is getting "flooded".

LG are now aware of the problem (thanks to Robert of ****************), so hopefully we can get resolution soon - it appears to be effecting just the LG LST-4200a HD tuner (4 people I know of so far in the S Bay).

Plumeria,

I was having a similar problem with KPIX OTA not mapping to 5-1 after the recent PSIP updatings. I could get KPIX on 29 and it would then remap to 5-1 but I had to punch in 29 first. That was the only station I had problems with. One of the KPIX engineers suggested that I do what you did. Disconnect the antenna, scan, re-connect the antenna, and then re-scan again. I now get 42 digital stations with no re-mapping problems and all are nice and clear. The "fix" seems to work for those of us who are just OTA so maybe the problem is the QAM side of the 4200A.
