Comcast HDTV to SVGA projector. Anyone?

220 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  srauly
I'm supposed to have an "installer" (seems silly to think I need an installer to come out for this) come out to set me up with Comcast HDTV in the Hartford, CT area. I have an SVGA NEC LT85 DLP projector and a Da-Lite Hi-Power 16:9 80x45" screen. How should I configure the Motorola 5100 to output to this projector? Would I output as 1080i, 720P, 480P? My projector can do the anamorphic squeeze thing. Does that come into play anywhere?

Sorry, I'm an HDTV newbie. I did a search for SVGA but didn't come up with much. I'm thinking that most with HDTV are fortunate enough to have HDTV sets or XGA projectors, but I'm thinking that there's got to be some more low-budget SVGA folks out there.

So maybe there aren't any HDTV fanatics with SVGA projectors, huh? Well, I'll bump this thread once and if I don't get any help I guess I'll try the sub-$3500 Digital Projector forum.

I got my Comcast HDTV box hooked up yesterday. Looks like I lucked out with the latest version of this box (the 6200). I unplugged my component-to-RGB cable from my progressive-scan DVD player and plugged it into the 6200, fearing that this might not be enough and I'd need to reconfigure something somewhere. Fortunately, it worked just fine. ESPN HD was one of the first channels the installers tried out and it looked gorgeous. Yes, even on my lowly SVGA projector. Now I must restrain myself from buying an XGA projector, since I know there's more detail that I'm missing.

So even though it works just fine, I'm not sure if I've got everything configured optimally. Again, considering that this is an SVGA projector, should I set the 6200 to default to 1080i, 720P, or 480P for best results?

Thanks,

Scott

You might ask in one of the display devices forums (if you haven't already), since you're really asking a projector question more than an HDTV device question. Or maybe try all three settings and see what you think ... :)

Try them all and pick the best.
Thanks guys. I'll definitely try all three and see how that goes. I'll probably also repost this in the sub-$3500 projector thread.
