I have a new Dune HD Smart D1 and am learning my way around and organizing my iso files and music for NAS storage. I'm researching the various jukebox programs and am having trouble teasing out advantages of each. Anyone find a good compare/contrast review or table?

Some of my wishes:

Relative ease of use.

Handling of DVD iso without separate folders for each movie.

IMDB ratings if possible.

Reasonable handling of music files (genre/artist, etc)

Input appreciated!

For music you will need to use a standalone jukebox, and I think Musicnizer is currently the only one:

My Movies requires a separate folder for each movie, so your requirement rules that one out.

I personally use Zappiti (see my guide below):

yaDIS is another popular one (see my guide below):

Movienizer is another one (although I don't know if it is required to have separate folders):

Yes, those are the four that I'm reading up on.

Can Musicnizer be installed along with one of the others so I could have one program for video and another for music?

Yes, Musicnizer is a standalone program, that you can run alongside one of the other. You can also run all of these at once for testing purposes (i.e. I have My Movies, yaDIS, and Zappiti all installed on my PC). Honestly this will probably be the best approach for you to narrow down which one you prefer best. You could always run each jukebox on a small sample of your library to get a feel for each one before making a larger commitment

Ahh, good plan. I didn't realize I could install them all at the same time for testing.

Thanks very much!

Aha I was looking for a music Jukebox also, I'll look into this.

I also need to re-rip all my MP3s into a lossless format, any recommendations?

As for the Movies I am finding Zappiti ace, after taking a while to get used to it and a few pointers from here it really is great.

damian, in your experience with these programs, which would you say is best in regards to ease of setup/use and overall functionality? and which do you find is the best automated scraping for movies and tv shows?

thanks.

I honestly prefer Zappiti. My Movies has been too unstable with TV Shows. I have very little problems with Zappiti scraping properly, and as far as actually using my wife uses all the time for playback of her content and for our boys.

Supposedly Zappiti is looking to adding a music jukebox and go flash based (along with an iPxx App).

I think Foobar or dbPowerAmp are popular FLAC apps:

And to answer dbone's question, Movienizer does not require separate folders. I believe My Movies is the only current jukebox for the Dune that has such a requirement.

Thanks for confirming Mike. My library is in individual folders so I have no way of confirming

Happy to do so. Mine are in folders as well, but I tested a folder with a bunch of iso files and it picked them up individually.

I just bought a Dune dune HD Smart D1 and I will be installing Yadis to view my movies and TV shows. I am currently using a Boxee Box which I have created NFO files, folder.jpg, and .tbn thumbnail files for. will I need to delete all of these from the folders containing my MKV movie and TV show files so that Yadis can scrape and populate each folder with the required metadata or does it use its own format and having all that previous information in the folders won't affect anything?

It uses its own, no need to delete or add anything

Sweet. Thanks. And thanks for the review of the Dune, that helped me make the decision to get it instead of waiting for the Mede8er or the Popbox V8. I'll still check out your reviews when you finish them but I figure if I'm going to pay over $200 for something when I already have a Boxee Box; dysfunctional as it is, it still does a decent job with most of my media, I might as well get full Bluray menus with the thing.

No problem, the Dune is an absolutely solid player and still my player of choice. Popbox V8 review will be up tonight or more likely tomorrow (I am missing some photos that I need to retake) and then I will take a look at the Mede8er
