I currently only own a Wii and standard dvd player with only component output. It's hidden in a closet along with my cable box(hdmi) and receiver. I have single 50ft hdmi running to a new Sony 52xbr4. For the time being I don't want to buy a BD player. But I want to hook everything else up via an hdmi switch. So I'd like a cheap way to get the component signals converted to hdmi, run those into the switch, then to the tv.
I posted a similar thread about the video quality of doing component to HDMI but got no response. Anyway, I did buy the gefen product mentioned above and it works. I have it hooked up to a projector and the audio of my DVD changer goes straight to the receiver.
