Complicated question

899 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  HDMI_Org
Okay so I have my PS3 and my Xbox 360 Elite plugged into an hdmi switch. The 360 has no problems whatsoever, however the PS3 on the other hand, everytime I play a blu ray, especially when you pass the fbi warnings or start up the movie it will restart the tv. If it's not plugged into the switch there is no problem, but that's not really a valid option. Any suggestions and comments will be greatly appreciated. Help me AVS forums, you're my only hope.

Just a guess but you may have to many devices plugged in the same surge protector, or wall outlet, and when the PS3 starts the heavy processing for Blu-ray playback the power dips low enough that it restarts your TV. Try using an extension cord to connect the PS3 to a different wall outlet and see if that solves the problem.
Following up on Richards answer.

There is a 5V feed (at 55 mA) that handles the HDMI buss.

If that drops or the if the low speed data buss drops (could happen to both at the same time) the HDMI transfer will not properly start.
Can you describe what "restarts the TV" does exactly? If the system works fine when you plug the PS3 directly into the TV, then I'd agree that the switch box may not be properly supporting the voltage and current requirement of the DDC line.
