Hi, I was wondering if some one could help me with some info and suggestions on Component cables? I have a Marantz S2 projector which I want to connect to my HDTV Cable Box, DVD player, and X-Box. To make this connection I need at least 40 foot component cables. Am I going to suffer signal loss and lower picture quality with such a long component run? Are there any recomended component cables for long run HDTV and DVD signals ?

Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

thanks

Do you have an AV Reciever that you are going to be patching those devices through? Just wondering since you didn't mention it.

You should not suffer any loss from a 40' run. Most of the custom cables you can purchase on the internet are made from very high quality cables that measure their loss in 100's of feet.

There is a very good article on the technology behind component cables here... Component Video Cables

Thanks Bryan, you're info has been really helpful. I'm planing on buying a Adaptive

signal-sensing auto selector for HDtV, model 1154 to patch all my component cables.

Is this Ok. What do you think?

Can you help me narrow down component cable brands/prices and where to buy?

Thanks again.

I've never heard of that switcher. Is "Adaptive" the name brand?

I can't really give you an unbiased opinion on where to buy because we sell cables :)

I'll give you links to several sites that use pretty much the same materials and procedures for making their cables and you can decide based on the information they present. Also I'm sure others here will chime in on what cables they like best.

The nice thing about ordering these cables via the Internet is that you can get pretty specific with the sizes you need... don't forget you are going to need shorter patch cables also besides the long run from your projector.

It sounds like the switcher is the Audio Authority one (1154 is the model #)...It's a good unit, as is the one from Inday (inday.com)...I use the Inday myself as I like the IR control.

Your best best for custom cables is from a source that uses either Belden or Canare cabling (RG6) with canare rca/bnc connectors. I believe that rhinocables and bluejeanscable both use those...dunno about bdcable. Aside from that, shop for price - compare sets built with belden 7710a (tri-coax) and canare connectors...buy the one you're most comfortable with price wise. Bluejeans cables has nice cables at nice prices...they're not as flashy as say bettercables silver series, but they're quality built cables.

cheers,

Rich
