I am looking for an inexpensive way to carry component HD over cat 5 cable. I know of several baluns that can carry composite and s-video over cat 5, but those that are designed for component are very expensive. I have multiple cables so I can split the bandwidth over three cables (say using 1 composite transmitter for each channel), but I can't easily add video cable (long story).

Check into the Lucent 380B balun. It'll carry three signals (RGB) quite a distance over Cat 5 (farther than 100 meters).

You can see it, along with the 380A (composite + two audio channels) at Anixter.com, maybe Lucent.com

Tri-State electronics in outside of Chicago also has similar generic baluns for a little less. (I think their website is www.tristateelectronics.com...something like that).

I use the 380A with pretty good results.

Good Luck

Scott

Extron showed HD over around 1000' of Cat6. It looked very good, I would imagine less than 500' would look excellent!

I believe the transmitter/receiver pair was around $800?
