I own two sony projectors (D50 and 1272) The D50 has burnt tubes but the 1272 is in great condition. I picked up both of these projectors and a pc-1271 switcher with a ccq-brs cable and two IFB-12s over the last 2 months. I want do set up the 1272 as my main projector, but it is frustrating as the circuitry inside is obviously inferior to d50.

Here is the problem. the IFB-12 is configured for 720p/1080i, and produces a foggy picture in the 1272q (things have auras, the sync if off etc), but produces an excellent picture in the d50q. in the 1272q, one of the IFB-12 boards produces a slightly better picture than the other, but they are both pretty bad.

I am fairly handy with soldering and was contemplating replacing all he electrolytic capacitors on one of the ifb-12, to see if this fixes things. but the d50q is making me have second thoughts.

Does anyone have any insight as to what is going on here? What can i do to get a nice clear component HD picture on my 1272q?

I have an HD fury, and really wish i had one of those ifb cards, but they are a little out of my price range right now.

I could probably pick up a transcoder, but I haven't given up on the ifb-12 just yet.

I ordered a whole set of capacitors a few days ago, and when they get here I'm going to replace all of them. I figure since its all analog, the capacitors may be charging/discharging at rates slightly off from the original spec (due to age). So replacing them all might mark a significant improvement (or mark a waste of time) Either way, I'll be posting back here my results.
