Component input on Philips DVDR985

Does the DVDR985 require a 480i signal through its component input, or would it scale 1080i down to 480i? My cable box scales everything everything to 1080i before sending it to the component output, so I'm wondering if that would work OK with the Philips.

It will not work with 1080i. I tried it.
