Recently purchased a Sony STR-DE597 stereo receiver to power a home theater and audio system. Noticed that there are two composite/component video inputs in the back of this unit and one output. Can anyone tell me why a receiver would have these inputs and what they are used for? Is this just simply to consolidate multiple component video signals into one output?

No, they're for allowing the receiver to switch video simultaneously with the audio. It's called "convenience", unless you prefer using the TV/monitor inputs.


Well, it's actually called "convenience" no matter what your preference is.
