The problem for me is that my DVD player (Panny XP-30) can't play DivX, and there are only a couple new players that will. Hopefully, new standalone players will all come out with the ability to play DivX "discs".
The next best thing I've found is that S(X)VCDs can be made that look just about indistinguishable from their original Replay files with multi-pass variable bitrate re-encoding. Unfortunately, it takes a ton of CPU time (I'll usually run it overnight), and most DVD players have varying degrees of non-compliant tolerance.
