I recently bought the MX-500 and there are a couple of buttons on my Philips TV Remote that the MX-500 will not learn correctly. So I looked around here to see that many are using the JP1 solution. Rather than going that route I figured I would try using what I already have, a Pocket PC.

I installed Pronto Edit on my laptop, edited a .ccf file with the codes I needed and then loaded that file onto my Pocket PC with PDAwin's TV remote software already loaded. I then had the MX learn from the Pocket PC.

Seems like a great work around...being that I have the equipment already.............now, to my point.

Rather than using my pocket pc as a liason, is there any software that is made to talk through a laptop's irda port directly to the remote? It would definitely speed things up!

Any an all help is appreciated.

Troy...just wondering what buttons the 500 didn't learn. I have a Philips TV too, and the 500 learned all its codes...but that doesn't mean anything for you. If your Philips is like mine, just be sure the remote is not in a "mode" where it's not actually putting out a signal for a certain key, so you're copying "nothing". I got caught by that a few times...the 500 says "good" after learning the null signals, and I have no idea what it copied, but it wasn't a valid signal because I had the Philips remote in a device mode where that key wasn't valid. Just a thought...
