Hello, folks! I am in a bit of a conundrum and I was wondering if anyone could help.

I'm interested in upgrading my current computer speaker setup. I am currently enjoying some Promedia speakers and I'm processing sound through a Plus+ soundcard.

If possible, I'd like to upgrade to 5.1 sound while keeping my 2.1 speakers, but I'm not sure what the optimal way to go about doing so would be. It's possible that it might make more sense to just pick up a whole 5.1 computer speaker package, but I don't know if it will sound quite as good as my Klipsch. Any suggestions on what a good course of action would be, preferably keeping the price of upgrade or replacement at around 200 or 300$?

Thanks!

That won't be easy to do since the 2.1 system gets its power from the subwoofer module. You'd have to either go with a passive speaker pack with a receiver or spend a premium on active monitors. I don't think you will get anything decent for $300. Cheapest would be the Energy Take 5.0 speaker package plus a refurbished receiver for maybe $350 to $400 and use the existing ProMedia subwoofer. Klipsch does have their HD Theater speaker packages starting at $400.
