Does Universal own the rights to the master of Brazil? I know there was an early Brazil release by Universal which has since gone OOP. Since then, only the Criterion versions have existed. If there were to be an HD release, wouldn't it have to come from Criterion?

Most likely, Criterion just pays them (and other studios) to release their movies. Just like with Traffic (recently out on HD-DVD via Universal).

It would be a crime -- and a crushing disappointment -- if Universal's new CONAN in HD didn't include that stereo track and we were left with the pinched mono original theatrical mix instead. Here's hoping...but since Universal's American DVD was the only place that didn't offer it, I'm not holding my breath.
