futureshop.ca shows Conan the Barbarian available for pre-order for Jan 30 for $24.99 CAD. I hope this is true. Probably a mistake though.

It must be a mistake since they also have Brazil listed for the same day.
And Singin in the Rain HD DVD for Dec 4, 2007....
I hope that's true about Brazil. I watched it last month on UnversalHD. It looked fantastic, and I'm sure the HD DVD will be even better. One of the greatest movies ever.
As much as I wish this were true, it seems a little too much of a coincidence that a Discovery Atlas film entitled Brazil Revealed is also scheduled for release on Jan. 30.
I wish Brazil was coming out. I'd buy it even if it was a combo!
Conan? Sign me up. It'll be the third time I've bought this movie (Region 1 SE, Region 3 2 disc edition, and now this) but who cares?

You hear the themes from Conan and Conan II and instinctively want to reach for a broadsword and begin hacking apart Villagers

I just want to hear the lamentations of the women in TrueHD. *sniffle*

I snickered at that, then immediately felt old.

Universal owns the distribution rights to Brazil.

Most likely, Criterion just pays them (and other studios) to release their movies. Just like with Traffic (recently out on HD-DVD via Universal).

These distributors negotiate contracts to release titles, but as far as I know this hasn't happened yet for the HD formats.

I don't know if Anchor Bay's contract ran out, but I assume it only covered DVD, which is why Universal released Army of Darkness on HD DVD.

So I don't think the old contracts roll over to HD.
I can hardly wait for Conan. I haven't seen it in a long time, and I've been thinking lately of seeing it on DVD, but decided to wait for HD instead. I hope the masters are in good shape, or restored properly, and that the sound is upgraded from mono on DVD editions. I think I'm looking forward to this more than I do to LOTR -- we already have decent DVD's for those.
Conan was just on INHD or UniversalHD in December...I watched a few minutes, it looked very good for a 25+ year old film....confidence is high.
The international DVD versions of CONAN THE BARBARIAN (released by Fox in most overseas territories) had a fantastic 5.1, truly remixed stereo soundtrack that truly did justice to Basil Poledouris' classic score.

Unlike some stereo remixes this one was enormously beneficial and aided the movie at every turn (the only reason it was in mono to begin with was because producer Dino DeLaurentiis didn't want to pay for it!).

It would be a crime -- and a crushing disappointment -- if Universal's new CONAN in HD didn't include that stereo track and we were left with the pinched mono original theatrical mix instead. Here's hoping...but since Universal's American DVD was the only place that didn't offer it, I'm not holding my breath.
Isnt Brazil due out in March (non US release)? I think I saw it listed on XE or somewhere........

The only bad thing about that track is that is seems some sounds have been added or remixed. I own the Region 3 disc you're speaking of, and when Conan and Subotai are running on the plains you can hear their footsteps LOUDLY over the music...there's a couple of other distracting, out of place sounds too.

But I agree, the remix makes the score sound absolutely wonderful.
