concealing speaker wire

1128 Views 5 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  caper_1
i want to mount the front speakers of my unit on the wall but dont want to put holes in my walls for the wires so i have two questions...

1. do i need to drill holes into the studs to mount my speakers? they r only 5 inches wide and 8 inches high...dont know how much they weigh

2. is anyone using raceways to conceal the speaker wires on the wall and can you post pics?

Unless there is a reason that you cannot easily punch a hole in your wall I would recommend fishing the wire through the wall as opposed to using raceways. If you were to attach a raceway to the wall with any adhesive, you may do more damage trying to remove it later than a simple little hole would cause. To answer your question about mounting the speaker to a stud, if its possible, yes I would secure it.
I use Monkey Hooks for my rear speakers, they have plenty of load capacity without needing a stud.

well i live in an apartment and i already have holes for my tv wires and im not really leaning towards putting more holes to run wires...i could probably mount the raceways using some screws if i go that route...i would get speaker stands but the new tv stand is just as wide as the wall so i wont be able to put the stands anywhere.

Used to live in an apartment so learned that screw holes are just as much work to fix before moving than holes, as long as you keep the holes for wires under 3/8 inch. Most landlords appreciate a fresh coat of paint on a wall anyway, and that really hides the drywall repair.
Have a look HERE at some options for hiding wires. yes I have pictures of the raceways on the wall...

I still recommend punching holes and fishing wires!!
