Confessions of a Xbox owner

Hi all;

Just thought I'd put in my two cents. I am an continue to be a loyal Xbox 360 and HD DVD add on owner. I love both products. However, up until about a month ago I thought the PS3 was a unwise buying decision for anyone, and I figured if I was to ever buy one it would be years from now.

But recently, after having bought dozens of HD DVD movies, and even buying some imported HD DVD's that are U.S. blu ray exclusives, it hit me : This "format war" is probably going to continue for many more months, maybe years. I have fallen in love with HiDef movies, and there are just TOO MANY Blu ray exclusives for me to wait until all studios go format neutral (which I honestly hope is the outcome for all parties involved) or one format "wins". I longingly looked at titles like Casino royale, Kingdom of Heaven, The Prestige (if I don't want to pay 40 bucks for an import), etc. and came to the conclusion that I had no choice, I NEEDED a Blu ray player. Considering the can't beat it value of a PS3, keeping in mind all it can do besides being a great blu ray player, that's the route I took.

I never thought I would say this, but I can't be happier. I still love my 360, but for multi media applications, I love the PS3 too. The little things like hitting display during a movie and getting to see the exact audio rate, using the PS3 as a picture viewer and music player, and not to mention all the eventual PS3 game exclusives makes me have no buyers remorse.

I'm very happy to finally be able go into a store and not be secretly very irritated that I can't buy this movie or that one because of format. I must say it feels good to be neutral!

Hehe, I know how you feel. There is a lot more BR movies I like compared to HDDVD.
Glad you are happy. PS3 rocks on so many aspects!
It is great you are enjoying it - although I have found the 'media' aspects aside from blu-ray playback to be pitiful. Listening to music with the PS3 is painful due to the inability to queue a playlist. Pictures look great but I have 6 years of digital pictures on the PS3 and navigating the pictures is painful. I am lucky I have 2 other much better options for a 'media' device.
The PS3's capability as a Blu-ray player is quite good, provided you have a TV that can do any sort of 1080 input. As a media center and just a gaming system, it falls short. Lair and Heavenly Sword may sell a few systems, but Sony is not going to dominate this generation like they did with the PS1 and PS2.

Well I'm glad someone has psychic powers. I love all three next-gen systems and plan to own them all but the fact is it's still anyone's game. The Wii has innovation and non-gamers on it's side and Nintendo first party, the 360 is kicking ass because of it's head start and great library and great online service, and the PS3 though being slow out of the gate holds a lot of potential and has a great slate of games on the way it just might take a while to get here (and let's not forget alot of people bought PS2's and alot of fanboys will buy a PS3 when they get the money and the games are backing it up).
Any moderate to hardcore gamer and media lover simply has to own both systems. That is, assuming you can afford them. The way I like to look at it, I was able to get both systems, extra controllers and some games for less than it would cost me to update my computer to play the newest games and play blu-ray discs.

I'm happy w/ both of my purchases and I am absolutely giddy about the games coming out this fall on both systems.
Yep, I own both too, and the Wii. I am so excited to play all of the great exclusives from every console. There are more AAA games to play than there is time to play them. I don't even have to think about maybe playing a B title to fill in the time before another good game hits. It is a good time for video games.
Its is indeed the best bang for the buck Blu ray player out there. I like two formats. I think the studios would be charging more (And its bad enough as it is!) if there was no competition.

I really dont get how people can say either system sucks.. for a little over a $1000 you can play any next gen game and any hi def movie.

In the world of HT.. a $1000 isnt really alot of dough. They both offer very good bang for the buck technology that anyone can honestly afford.

It'll work fine
If your TV can accept a 1080i signal and scale it into 720p it will work fine, if it cannot your screwed.

Yeah I feel the same way. I don't see a point in building a new PC for a while.

Yep Ill do what I did last gen, as soon as the difference b/w graphics in PC and console games becomes very large (probably in about 4 yrs) I'll go ahead and update the PC again. Not that I won't continue to play console games.
