1. Is it possible to setup WMC so that we can configure which program is used for playing DVD, music etc.

2. How is one supposed to get 5.1 sound from the optical out of the HTPC. ( Will it be a WMC setting or will it be an audio driver setting )

Thank you

Actually the reason I was asking was that I have a powerspec Multi Media PC with "Integrated Intel® HiDef Audio 7.1 using the Realtek ALC880 audio codec".

When I play DVDs I can only get stereo ( PCM ).

http://powerspec.com/systems/system_...lection=MCE410

When I did the audio test using the realtek Sound Manager, I saw that I was not able to hear any sound when it said the rear speakers/subwoofer/centre are being activated.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Thanks

I had similar problems lately and realized that the test buttons are only analog

outputs and not digital!! I know it sounds crazy, but that's how it is.

You may want to check the 5.1 settings to output AC3 and PCM, Also, in your

DVD decoder (WinDVD6 ??) properties, you need to indicate that you want

to send output to digital output.

Hope that helps

Thank you legolas for the reply:

I m able to get digital connection ( which is why it is PCM as opposed to analog stereo ).

Looks like the problem is with my audio codec/driver.

Are you supposed to get a 5.1 surround sound codec.

Are there any suggestions ?
