I finally got 3.0, and I have a question about the new MORE OPTIONS choice in recording options.

In the MORE OPTIONS dialog, there is a choice for padding BEFORE and AFTER. Then there is a day of the week list, that lists SUN - SAT.

What does this option do? I assume it makes it so I'll only record that show on the checked days.

So for example, I'm a huge Simpsons fan, and if I create a Simpsons recording schedule, it will record everyday, and many channels. But if I enter the more options dialog, and remove all of the checks except Sunday, then I'll only be recording 'The Simpsons' on Sunday.

Is this a correct example? Because it also seems like it could be associated to the padding.

Yes, you're understanding it correctly.

For example, I have two Simpsons channels:

1) I have one that records the syndicated showings, keeps 2 episodes and is non-guaranteed. It is set for Monday-Friday

2) I have one that records the Sunday new episode, guaranteed, and is set for only Sunday.

Basically, this allows you to guarantee a show like The Real World, Simpsons, Sex in the City, etc, which have a specified "first run" time, but then repeat in many different time slots over the week. If you guaranteed The Real World in the previous version for Tuesday at 10:00pm, it would often conflict with other shows when MTV re-ran old episodes on say Thursday or Saturday around the same time...

The padding applies to any time the show is recorded...

Oh, you got me thinking, about this MyReplayTV thing...hey ReplayTV guys, you just gotta give us a easy way to link to our own recording options from the MyReplayTV.com website. Maybe something like an 'Export Link' option. So the real nerds (like myself) can add the link into conversations like this one, and then others can quickly copy my setup to their own ReplayTV. Am I making sense?

Well maybe setup is easy enough, I'm just trying to think about all the possibilities around MyReplayTV.com.

Thanks for the info Jleavens.

Ohhhhh, that is a cool idea. Custom channels, kinda along the lines of the Sonicnet radio mixes.

Wow, there's a lot of possibilities there.

I once before brought up the pessimistic idea that MyReplayTV.com could be used like email chain letters...ie: your "friends" could set up your ReplayTV to record shows they think you'll like. Eich!

But...I like THIS idea...we could email each other links that automatically program their ReplayTV. Imagine emails from NBC:

"Wanna check out our new fall shows? Just click below and your ReplayTV will record each and every one!

COOL!
