Confusing choices for remote control

Hello all.

I'm building a new media room to replace a defunct basement home theater, I last used and still have the Harmony 1000 touch screen remote, I didn't use it enough to form an opinion and I'm looking elsewhere for my new setup.

I'm a programmer, so complexity doesn't scare me. The Demopad control looks interesting, but I see there is turmoil in working with the company so I'm steering clear. The Harmony Elite doesn't look anywhere near perfect, but it appears near perfect doesn't exist in this space. Am I missing something?

theHomeRemote is very similar to Demopad without the turmoil. It's been working well for me and will give a programmer like you plenty to do.
