I have a laptop with VGA out.

My TV has inputs for S-Video or Component Video.

I tried using a VGA to Component cable, and that didn't work (someone is running a good scam).


What do I need to connect the laptop to my TV?

Hope I don't need to spend too much.

I had that problem as I had the same cable (VGA-Component). The reason it doesn't work is because the PC color system (RGB) is different from the TV color system. The TV is expecting a Component-based signal (Y-Pr-Pb). You would need a Transcoder to do the proper conversion.
