All,

I have a GTX295 now, and am looking to upgrade. It really doesn't appear that a $500 dual GPU card is going to happen anytime soon that would be really worth it, though.

I know the GTX295 is in the ballpark of the GTX480 and 5870 already, but I want more...both for Folding, DX11, the fact I like to buy this stuff, and the fact I'm probably going to go for a 30" sometime in the next few weeks/months.

Right now, it seems the best $500 deal out there is 2 GTX470s. EVGA Superclocked models are $249 at Amazon right now. And, yes, I have the PSU/Mainboard/Case to support this.

Any better deal you can think of? 6870s seem to be close, but it does seem that SLI is more consistent and scaleable than CF. Plus I'm already invested in CUDA apps like Badaboom.

Is 2 460s a better deal...or do you think a ~380-400 shader 560 will be out in the next few weeks? Also, 470s do LPCM over HDMI, right?

GTX 460's at Newegg for 199.00 Free Just Cause 2 Game Coupon -$59.99

2 Cards 2 free games. Net for 2 would be $280 for 2 cards + 120 for games.

Or $498.00 for 2 470's and no freebees.

Card to card

GTX 460 Fermi Faster Core Clock, Faster Shader Clock, Faster Memory

336 Core Processors

GTX 470 Slower Core Clock, Slower Shader Clock, Slower Memory

448 Core Processes - Mini HDMi to HDMI adaptor needed

I would go for the 460's, nice savings there. In SLI, nice combo. And get some free gifts to re-gift, lol.

well, JC2 is $29.99 now, and I already have it

Definitely a tough choice, though. The GTX470, while having lower clocks, does have a higher fill rate and memory bandwidth...but they are both really close.

I know the 460s would save some power, though. The extra memory on the 470s would help if I do go 30" though I know both options are so very close.

Keep watching the 470's, i would not be surprised to see further price cuts as the new 5xx cards get more popular. 2 470's would make a very nice system, as long as your good with a little extra heat/noise. I had one 470 for a while and didn't really mind, the fan noise was a bit lower pitched than my 5870.

Since this was what I wanted to get myself for Xmas, I went ahead and ordered 2 EVGA Superclocked 470s @249.99 each! Due to the quite likely monitor upgrade (24" is feeling small), I decided against the 460s. Thanks all for the suggestions; looks like I was on the right track.

Should be here Tuesday or Wednesday

Looks like I could probably sell the 295 for $200-220 or so, but I don't know if I will or not. My brother is looking to do a system soon, so maybe I'll give it to him. At one point I was looking for a 2nd, but Quad SLI doesn't seem to work/scale so well, and it's still DX10.

480 Shaders at 576/1242Mhz to 896 at 625/1250Mhz
That's right around double the theoretical processing power! Also, a step up in bandwidth from 112GB/s to 136GB/s with a 384MB larger frame/texture buffer and 28 to 40 ROPs
Figure it'll fold really fast, too...any FP64 tasks in [email protected]??

I'm kind of doubting another cut-down GF110 will come out; rather I'm thinking it will be a full or slightly updated GF104. I'm guessing the 560 will be a ~380 shader card. If it winds up being insane...there's always the step-up!

This will be my new system config:

MSI X58 Pro-E USB3

Core i7 930 @ 3.8Ghz (180*21), max turbo 4.15Ghz

Coolermaster Hyper 212+

6GB Corsair DDR31600 @ 1800

2*EVGA GTX470s

80GB Intel X25 G2 SSD

3*1.5TB, 1*1TB, 1*2TB, and 1*500GB HDDs (TV recording!)

Avermedia Duet, ATI Digital Cable Tuner

LG BD Burner

PCI Xfi XtremeMusic

Lian Li PC65 (since 2002!)

I'm thinking next will be a case upgrade (Corsair 600, but wish it had a window), then a 27-30" screen.
