If you are using your Denon 3808ci as a prepro, what amps are you using with it? I recently replaced my B&K 505 with a 3808ci. Are the amps in the 505 better than those in the 3808? Your comments please.

I used the 3808 for several months while waiting for my AVP A1HD to come in. I powered it with a Gemstone amp. It sounded very good. I had no problems with the unit.

Ultimately it boils down to what you think. Are you happy with what you hear, if so then enjoy.

If it can't get to SPL levels you want "cleanly" then maybe you can add a more powerful amp for your mains and use it just for the surrounds..

I use the Denon 2809 as a pre/pro

My amps are Outlaw M2200 or Emotiva XPA-5 or Sunfire Cinema Sig II

I use an AVC-A1HD (5308ci) with a POA-A1HD and it's a great combination for my set up. Got the AVC-A1HD (5308ci) before the AVP came out and couldn't afford the hit to upgrade to the AVP-A1HD... so I stayed with the AVC-A1HD (5308ci). Ok, so I miss out the balanced connections between the AVP and POA, but I can run a 9.1 (3 subs) system and still have bi-amping to 5 channels for multitrack music.

I know it's not the 3808ci you ask about, but thought I'd share it anyway!

Cheers

I have a 3808ci (still have it but mainly as a backup unit), and I *hate* the 2 remotes that it comes with.

But since you already have the 3808ci receiver, that is simply my comment on my one most aggravating thing with the 3808ci.

But it's not bad (i.e. the 3808ci) for decent quality sound (as a pre-pro) so long as you use it in "pure/direct" mode (which takes some doing given the complex menu system of the 3808ci).

Can't directly help you with that, as I've never had a B&K 505.

But if sound quality is high on your list of "must-haves" (which is unlikely in my experience here on AVS), then: 1) go with separates (pre/prepro/amp(s)), and 2) ditch digital connectors for sound (HDMI/coax-digital/optical-digital(a.k.a. TosLink)), and 3) use HDMI only for video, and 4) use 5.1 RCA analog inter-connect cables for sound.

Not cheap or easy, but in the long run (in my recent 2 year experience) a lot less expensive than finding a *current* high-end prepro that doesn't have issues (i.e. some/many *issues*) with HDMI cabling for MC sound.

Cheers

Not sure what you mean by this? I'm more interested in sound quality than Video quality and I'll bet I'm not the only one here

Why ask? The comment about ditching digital connections says it all; absurd.

Ditch all digital connections for audio? That makes no sense.
