Hope somone can ease my brain: OK,Building my first HT and I have room for 90"

Wide screen ,I plan on watching DVD movies and DVD music videos only sooo

IM thinking 16:9 projector and screen ?? I understand a little about masking so

what can I do to only have to mask on sides? and is there a better way to go considering all the different movie aspects { Happy mediam}??

If you only want to mask the sides, make the screen 2.35:1 or wider as that is the widest aspect ratio, Then you can just use a set of blackout curtains on either side and narrow them for the movie's that aren't so wide (it would be adviseable to rig it so the curtans are taut and held inplace on both top and bottom, that way they won't flutter around),

Be aware that this set-up will require projector adjustments be made as well so the movie continue to fill the height of the screen. This is easy enough to do if you are useing a HTPC but could be cumbersome otherwise.

Yes,

If you want the widescreen experience, you will want to mask vertically.

Install a 16:9 screen, and adjustable masking for top and bottom, then you can 1) always use the full 90" width and 2) don't have to adjust the projector for each aspect ratio.

Read masking threads in the screen forum.
